There's another Auto-X being held on Dec 3, but I've heard that NASA-X is taking over the "SunRiders Club" after that. What does this mean? Will there still be evnts at SPC or will they have new venues?
I'm new into the Auto-X community and trying to get in on it.
By the way..., for those who wanted videos from the last event (Nov 13), I have them almost done and a direct-link should be up in no longer than a week.
If you want any pics/vids in particular let me know.
Who is planning on going to the next one? I'll try to be out there with my camera again, and maybe a better video camera too.....
My e-mail is: Regit230@yahoo.com

What was "SunRiders Motorsports" is becoming NASA-X Tampa (http://nasaxflorida.com/) a division of NASA Florida (http://drivenasafl.com/). We'll still be holding events at SPC, but we're also working on several other locations. Look for events at Hernando County Airport (Brooksville), Tampa Bay Downs (Tampa), and Primus Racing Test Track (Palmetto) in the coming year.

I also heard it's gonna be a new course layout? Is that true? Do they change every year?

With very few exceptions, every autocross course is different every time. It's part of the sport.

That makes sense, otherwise it would suck, now that I think about it.

Registration and entry list is here (http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEntryList.Show?psevent_id=4412). (you'll have to create an account and login)
I'll be there. You're welcome to ride with me just about anytime the passenger seat is free.

Slim to none.

Not necessarily. Having a static layout would definately be a boon for those who are interested in dialing in their car's suspension. As it stands now, the only way to do that would be running some backroads (illegal) or heading out to Sebring for some track time (expensive and potentially resulting in a non-autocross friendly setup).

Hey Bill-
Were you at the one in November? Are you going tomarrow?
Anyways, what you're saying is right, but it would get repetitive eventually.

GCAC uses the same course for all of their Saturday practice events.
Registration for the autox at Primus is open, btw. Check it out (http://nasaxflorida.com/).

autox at primus?
are you just running the super-tight segment of the track?
...reading the flyer helps I guess.
Looks interesting :)

This looks like it will be loads of fun. Registered. Does anyone have info about Primus? Where is it? What is it?

Primus is a test track for a local race car builder. (Van Diemen distributor) The address can be found on our website (http://www.nasaxflorida.com/srlocation.cfm).

Thanks Loren - your link above is malformed though. After I fixed it, I got to the SR page and clicked the Primus map link:
"MapQuest found a similar location for "10101+US+Highway+41, Palmetto, fl". Please select or revise your search."
Clicking its suggestion, I go to this page (http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&addtohistory=&formtype=address&searchtype=address&cat=&address=10101%20Us%20Highway%2041%20N&city=Palmetto&state=FL&zipcode=34221%2d8822&search=Get%2bMap)

Fixed the link. Yeah, that web page is a couple years old. Mapquest has updated their stuff, we haven't. New NASA FL website is in the works, not much point in correcting all of the little issues with the old one.

I just read about the Event for january. Ill definately be coming out there just to watch and maybe learn a little bit before I start getting into it. Hopefully I can get my car tuned up a lil here soon so I can actually start racing.
Also i read somewhere that Primus was or used to be a go-cart track?? Is this true and do they still have them if so?

Half of the Primus track (the half we're using) was designed for kart racing. But it's not a "kart track" in the way I think you're thinking. Not where you go pay $5 to rent a slow go-kart and run for a few minutes. It's a track for RACING go karts. People bring their shifter karts out and race them.
Passengers won't be allowed at January's Primus event. Sorry.

True. But you may mind the passenger telling your competitor exactly how many cones they hit while driving. 2 cones = ok. 3 cones = u lose.

And also telling you when to take it easy, or go faster. It's a blind man's race...

I wouldn't call it a blind-man's race... but when you're on course, it's all you. Driver vs. Driver. You have to rely on your own senses and skills.

I know i'm a little stupid at times, so please bear with me, but why does this look impossible to me?
What I gather so far from this thread/the PDF:
Both cars start at the same line, both cars travel the same direction. If you catch up to the car in front, you are to follow along at a safe distance -- no passing allowed. If you catch up to the car in front, you will finish first.
How will the faster person cross the finish line first if there is no passing? It seems like the only way to win is to beat the other car off the line.
I have to be reading this map wrong...
There are 2 start/finish lines. Each person has their own.
Loren
12-06-2005, 07:19 PM
The big arrows at each start line indicate the direction of travel of that car. There are actually two start lines and two finish lines. The finish lines are in-line with each other so that the judges can get a visual on who finishes first. Stare at it some more, you'll figure it out. ;)
And if you can't figure it out... maybe you'll want to skip this one?

there are two start / finish lines .. on opposite sides of the track .. the two cars start on opposite sides; the first one back to there own starting line wins... if you catch the car in front of you he is a half lap behind you.. get it ?

No smack talk yet?
I went home and fixed my front camber after Sunday's event. I am no longer running -5 degrees of camber up front, I've backed it out to -1 and I'll probably try -2 for the Primus event. My tires are shot on the inside shoulders; my own damn fault, I should have fixed the camber a while ago.
So, the smack talk. Now that I will have more contact patch on the track, I am hoping to be even faster. It felt really good to run where I did on Sunday (although the RE070's and coilovers do give me some advantage) and I'm feeling pretty good about Primus. I have driven there before and I might go run there this coming weekend. Karts and cars are two different things though. I am kinda bummed that no passengers will be allowed, I might lose a little time without my trusty co-driver. We'll see.

Hehe: -5...ouch. I miss my RE070, I have a set down to the wear bars.
Karts??? Hmm, can I rent one? If so, I am in.

I'm trying to get a friend in Orlando let me borrow his Gram Lights w/ slicks for the Primus event. But that'll bump be into class C, with all them there STi cars...
As long as I don't come in last, no matter what class I'm in :P
I don't know Kenny, if you had slicks and light wheels I'd be willing to bet that you could beat most of the STi's. The portion of the Primus track that we will be running is really tight, add in all of the cones and it gets even tighter. Tires could make all the difference in the world.

Amen. There are a couple of places where a little speed can be made. But with a 7 cone 60' slalom taking about half the straight, tires are where it will be at. And talent.
It was amazing to watch the shifter cart run the slalom and see how slow he had to get too. Which is exactly what it was designed to do, keep speeds down at the end of the straight-away.
