01' Z28 A4, 93 octane, TSP lid, ported TB.

At high rpms the car is detonating. But it only does it when you stay in the higher rpms for a long time. From a dig it doesn't ping until it gets around 5000-6500 (once going like 65-70mph). I had a grantelli meter on it and it pinged. So I took it off and put the stock meter back on. It still does it. I'm thinking it's timing. Bought it used so don't know if the timing was advanced or not. The A/F is 13:1 all the way to redline. What the hell could it be?
Thanks. -Mark

carbon build up and or egr sticking open some. run a can of seafoam through the vacuume and it will most likely stop.

Get aTuner to pull a degree or so. Some LS1's are just prone to ping. Make sure you have the original MAF and screen etc.

IF that is the case tuning is a good option. I have seen tons of LS1's ping once the "lid" is done

Damn Eddie where the hell have you been? So a tuner is the only way to pull timing? Sounds expensive. Would putting higher octane (race gas) be a temperary fix? I really concerned about the running at the track. -Mark

did you clean the MAF wires yet? be sure to try that first

Al, the wires look clean. But how do you clean them? I know that they are really sensitive. Would a quick fix be running some 110+ gas in it? She is running at the track day and I don't think I'll have the time to fix it. Gotta fix my clutch ya know. :D thanks. -Mark

I have always used a non-cholrinated brake cleaner to clean MAF wires(the actual sensor wires) As for the connections..well you can use the same thing and then dab some dielectric grease on there)

As for the track a 50/50 mix of 100/93 should be plenty. 110 would prob slow you down.

Well I would probably have 3/8 of a tank (bout 4 gal) and I was gonna put 2 gallons of 110 so it would probaby bring it up to 96 or 97. -Mark

ahh ok. I was thinking straight 110. Make sure it's unleaded!

Also I have never had to clean a GM MAF so do at your own risk!!! I have cleaned numerous ford, nissan, infiniti MAF's with NO issues but never needed to on a GM. However it did have significant gains on the cars I did clean it on.

Make sure the Air bridge is tight, and all the clamps are in place,

Also, make sure your injectors are clean.

Sounds like an air flow problem, telling the cpu to give it too much gas.

I think you can reset the CPU by unplugging the Battery for 15 minutes.
Theat may clear the MAF sensor readings.

AntiVenom.com could help out I am sure!

just take some brake cleaner and a q tip and gently rub the wires down front and back. Apply very light pressure....maybe 3 times the Q tips own weight. They may look clean but I can gaurentee you they arent. Dont coat them with anything afterwards. They need to be exposed directly to the air flowing over it. I would do this first before you did anything else.
