View Full Version : Need to get Speakers, Amps installed in new truck..Where should I go?

I know there's been thousands of threads, but we can always use a new updated one. :)

I have an 05 Ford F150 Lariat SuperCrew. I am replacing the factory speakers and adding an amp. Front speakers are Alpine SPR-57LS 5x7 Components, and rear speakers are Alpine SPR-57LP 5x7 coaxials. The amp is an Alpine MRP-F240 200w (50x4) 4ch amp (I hope I haven't selected an under powered amp, but too late ;) )..but it has speaker line inputs, so I don't need a cheesy line output converter, right?

Right now I am going to keep the factory headunit. I plan on picking up the Eclipse AVN5435 within a few weeks (hopefully by Christmas!). My thought process on this system selection is crisp, clean, sound quality. I plan on adding another amp and one 12" sub.

There's the background. The question.

Where should I go to get installed? I've received one quote "Hi-Tek" in Brandon (right near Valrico Wal-Mart on 60). They did my tint. Seem to be good guys. Quoted me 150 plus materials. Best Buy wants 200+ plus materials. Any other recommendations? Quality of install is KEY to me, as well as decently priced.

I'm too new to this area to just pick someone. To me, a reputable installer that will do a HIGH quality job is not someone you just pick out of the phone book, so please don't recommend a yellow page search. ;) Word of mouth is best.

Thanks guys. ;)

Should be just under $200 + 8 guage wire kit (can bring your own if you want). If you do bring it in and have me do it, I'll be sure to give extra attention to it also. Let me know if you do.

your driveway. learn what all the numbers mean and how a system should be put together, I.E. impedance matching, matching the wattage of the amp and the capabilities of the sub. it may take a few weeks to learn about this by reading magazine articles or a book ( check out the haynes extreem series, it will give a good base) but you will save a lot of money and if something stops working you will be able to fix it right away and not have to wait a few days to get it fixed. plus the fact that no one cares as much about your truck as you do, so you would be the most likely to do everything properly and not half assed ( like crimp connecting 8ga wire 2 inches from the fuse block).

if you do take it somewhere do not go to car stereo shoppe in brandon, or fuck off...I mean buzz off. car stereo shoppe doesn't read directions, will blow you off when they fry one of your components, and they don't ops check the shit they install. buzz off is the rudest fuckers I have ever met in a retail store. And when they fuck shit up they blame it on something else even when you prove to them it's their shit that's the issue.

Hi-tek did my tint and do seem like decent people, I do my own work for stereo and alarm installs so I can't say whether or not I'd go to them.

Well, I know how to do it..I've been into car stereo since I was in high school and I've installed all of my own systems.

That being said, this is a brand new truck, with brand new components. I'd like to start fresh and clean!

then what's wrong with diy? don't get me wrong if it's a matter of time, or you would rather not be bothered with having to put forth the effort, that's all good. but with an all new truck you'd stil be the best person to do it. My brand new civic ( 1 day old) went to buzz off and I had problems with the alarm system the whole time I owned it. the day the alarm came off is the day the problem went away. I understand sometimes it's nice to just hand over the parts, come back later and it's done, however since you seem to be the sort that will be back into the system to tweek it or maintain it, you will be coming behind someone elses mess.

shit id hire someone to wipe my own ass for me if i had the mony. but till then ill do all my own work. even tho in my case it would be woth payin someone 200 to install somthin for me than it would be to have my old lady bitchin at me the whole time im tryin to install it to stop workin on my car and spend more time with her.

not really. I'm sure some to some of us, we can make more money in those hours spent on labor than it costs for the install, or some can afford it and want the luxury of not breaking a sweat. Nothing wrong with either one, and the bonus is, you have somebody to blame if it gets fucked up.

No one, not even the BEST installer, not even a good friend doin you a favor will put the same quality work into your system than you can.

Then again, the super laziness aspect is what makes me money so keep at it you sloth you...

as for the blame thing, usually you do sign waivers before you get your crap installed which eliminate a good portion of the responsibility of the installer.

I know at some point I will pay someone to do the work to my car, just from simple time contraints. I can do the work, but if I cant squeeze it in whats the point?

Oh, and LOC's arent a bad thing anymore.

I disagree. Ive worked on friends cars and treated them as my own, taking as much time as needed, some of which for free nonetheless. But I do it for the guys who actually want to learn, and who I know will truly appreciate it and will repay the favors if I ever need anything.

Agreed. I would spend a whole Saturday doing this.. and a whole Saturday could make me a lot of money. ;)

Good points about the money thing, I guess to me working on my stereo is like you speed demons and your turbos/NA/cams/whatever else is popular for tuners to do to their rides.

Plus the only time I get away from my damn wife is when im out workin on my car...

why not make a offer - if they ask for it - and i dont do it for free - my time is worth something (MECP MASTER) - they must be buying only buy price because if not they would not even ask - i do this as a hobby to feed my gas guzzler - i do not sell product - just labor - and i dont pimp out any one shop..............

real shop - where around here pays $60,000 a year? for stereo install?

I own my business - and do stereo for fun and extra spending cash

i first was just basic installer - the shop i worked at in colorado paid by % of install
as basic installer i got 35% of install price
then I was security certified & up my % to 40%
then i got first class and bumped to 45%
the shop owner offerd to pay for the classes & tests if i passed to a master - bumped to 50%
i made about 1100 a week

that took about 2 years..
at one time i had 6 cars competing national in iasca - then i started in spl (my best 164.9) on 1000 watts (amp face ratings) traveled around trying to get points for nats.
and decided to come back home - tampa. and got out a car audio..
lately the itch is back and i am just doing it for fun - no more custom - go to SA for that

If in Clearwater area we can do it for you. $145.00 w/o 8ga kit. add kit if needed. If planning on adding a 2nd amp later I would run a 4ga power setup and be done with running wires for future use.
