I have a 98 Legacy with a 4-cam EJ25 through 5MT, and am looking for another transmission.

I am under the impression that the WRX trannies will fit and spline on to the older 2.5 (mine is a Phase I) with the stipulation that two of the dowel holes became bolt holes or something to that effect - is this true?

Also, will an older 2.2 Legacy (BC/BF) 5MT fit and spline in?

The transmission doesn't need to be super strong (my power goal is only 200hp/tq NA and I am going to have many of the internals cryo-treated anyway), and front final drive ratios are inconsequential for my application. I just need it to fit and drive like my current 5MT does.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Wow... I... um, well, I dunno. But I can at least point you in the direction I'm already looking, the conversions (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=87) and legacy forums (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13) on NASIOC are a good start.

If I can find anything I'll definately post it, though.

Cool, thanks. I've posted in the transmission FAQ there. Gotta love NASIOC and the plethora of Subaru knowledge there!

I'ma post in the driveline/transmission forum there too.

Unfortunately, most of the stuff I've found so far are the WRX engine and trans swapped into a Leggy.
