Heat wrap it and get a new heat shield. I got a Gruppe-S one (I think) for like $40. Simple to put on, it bolts to the tranny with one bolt.

i heatwrapped my downpipe and the car didnt like it. took it off and car ran alot better. i hear you should only wrap before the turbo. wrap the turbo, uppipe, and header

One could always get Crucial Racing stuff, and not worry about it, because their U/D pipes are ceramic coated.

heat wrapping is better for heat dispusion. but it is hard on the metal. best to do both

If it's on a place where it may get wet and you have a metal that will rust, DON'T wrap (wraping retains water, water causes rust).

+1 to the only wraping the headers, turbo, and UP. Anything post-turbo is unnecessary and will mess with the heat flow in averse ways.
