I've been watching quite a few drift vid's lately and it has come to my attention that There aren't any Spyders drifting. Now, I've been into drifting for quite some time, but I'm still learning the actual mechanics of tuning your car and other technical info, so don't start flaming me. http://tamparacing.com/forums/tamparacing/smiles/evildeal.gif

I'm guessing that it has somethinf to do with the mid-engine setup...?

Keiichi Tsuchiya, "Drift King", in the dvd, Drift Bible, should explain why.

yeppers. the mr-spyder engine is more towards the back compared to mine, more like a porshe. that makes it very hard to countersteer hard. even my car snaps super hard with a fast countersteer. i belive the mr-s's wheel base is a little shorter as well, resulting in very fidgedy handling. the reason you dont see them drifting is because its a $10,000 plus car that is hard to get a good overall angle out of, why not spend that much money on a nice ass s14 that is easy to drift. mr-s is a very good grip car though, which you can see in option in the turbo vs n/a battle. it still gets spanked by the s14 though.

well the real reason you don't see mr2 syders drifting is cause they don't have LSD stock, except i think for the last year or 2 they made them. you can drift one but it has to have LSD and you need to know what your are doing. as they are very trickey to handle at and beyond the limit (i.e.drifting). i thik it is do-able, just a little harder to set up than your average 240.

The REAL reason you don't see them drifting is because you never even see them on the street. Toyota sold like 5 of them in the US. The chances of one showing up at a drift event is pretty small.

1] oversteer
2] super short wheelbase
3] i have only seen 30yr old chicks drive them!

if i had a MR2 spyder..i would probably try to get the maximum potential out of it..by going for grip.. that the car's purpose

that car was pretty good, but if you're going for an awesome mid-engine drifter................................don't bother and just go get something easier if you're interested enough, you could probably do okay with your car and then build up something else if you find that you want to persue something a little more manueravable (i.e. the 240, why do you think nearly everybody's got one. they work). I'm not flaming, just stating facts. I liek 240's just as much as any one else.

so tak, u say you had one n its too heavy..sure

MR-S would suck as a drift car..but would be really fkin' awesome on AUTOX
that's the cars purpose..
its like..why don't F1 cars drift? 'nuff said

i tried drifting an mr-s, think of it this way, it feels like you have metal tires on the back. its super loopy.

In one on the Touge battles on BMI they had a MRS drifting. Cars are a discrace to the MR2 lineage though. Mid engine doesn't mean no drift though. Just means you need to be a better faster driver.

bragging rights! not really, it is hard tho.

the MR-S is a disgrace? how so? in that video it raped the sirvia..
probably when you all think of MR2 you all think SW20....heavy mid engine celica
the AW11 however, was light n had the tiny 4AGE that we all know and love
as the years went on...it gained weight n lost touch of its roots n well..they stopped making it!

having a MR-S win 2002 JGTC [GT300?] is pretty damn good!

I said it was ass heavy. As in the rear end weight + rear wheel drive + front wheel steering is a lethal combination. Car likes to drive backwards more than forwards.

whoa...sorry about your car dude...

Thanks for all this input guys!

Now I'm sure the MR2 could whoop the Spec V in AutoX, right? I mean ride heighth alone must mean for a more advanced run?
