My 1500 watt brutus amp keeps eating up the inline power wire fuses. Everytime I look under the hood, the fuse is either blown or the plastic around it is melted and deformed. I have about 3 interesting looking fuses here. The last fuse it ate up was 100 amps, should I have a 120 amp fuse in the holder? (The amp has 2 60 amp built in fuses so I figure 1 120 amp inline fuse) Where the hell do I find a fuse with this much amps?? *its a maxi fuse btw, square with 2 prongs on the bottom* Am I cranking the music too loud? whats the deal

The battery side fuse is only to protect the wire from melting and catching fire if it were to ground out or in the case of an accident. The fuse nearest to the battery should be at least 150% of the total draw of the amps - more optimally it should be slightly below the rated capacity of the wire so as to not limit/reduce the current flow.

If you have dual 60 amp fuses in the amp, you should be rolling with a 200 amp fuse up front. I have dual 30 amps on two amps(4 x 30 = 120a fuses) and I have a 250amp front breaker. remember smaller fuses also introduce their own line resistance.

But before you upgrade the fuse, take an ohms meter to the cable and make sure you dont have a short circuit anywhere on the line. If the amp has a problem, its own fuses will blow so dont worry about that.

very nice my friend very nice, do you know where I can purchase a 200 amp fuse here locally?

check your ground
you may be pulling more current because of a bad ground
did you up grade your battery to ground wire?
if not do it.
reground the amp into some thick metal
make sure your battery termals are clean.
make sure your amp connections are tight
I would try this before putting in a larger fuse of 120 amps

What do you mean "did you up grade your battery to ground wire?"

The amp has a good ground, its screwed right into the chasis of the truck. The terminals are after market amplifier connection terminals so they are connected good.

the ground wire from the battery should be the same guage as the power wire.

Mine came from a little known electronics store in california called frys. But im pretty sure SA carries maxi fuses. If not simply upgrade the block and get a breaker - fuse blows, flip the switch back hehe. :D

Why not just make the switch to anl?

Jessie,

I actually swapped my ANL fuse box on my high amp for the maxi fuse box on the sub amp and I have a 4 pack of 200 amp ANL fuses in the mail. Thanks for all the help guys.

are you using that ghetto ass walmart wire still???

You Should Add A Ground Wire From Battery - To Chassis Ground Same Size As The Power Wire + Run From Battery To Amp.
And It Would Not Hurt To Add A Ground Wire From Engine (attach Close To Alternator) To Chassis Ground

upgrade wires+fuses if ur still blowin fuses ur amp may have a bad resistor. hifonics amps draw alot of power so id say u need a bigger fuse
