I like the fact that the Pioneer has a tiltable screen and has navigation. Plus it has Duel Drives DVD-Navi and CD.... I like the tilt feature. Ive seen the Kenwood i thinkat Best Buy ? Maybe i think thats what it was. I just want a nice OEM looking Double Din. But that Plays DVD's

Eclipse AVN5495 has everything: built-in 30gb hdd, 10gb for touch-screen nav, 20gb for recording songs off cds, radio, etc. 3 5V outputs, plays dvds/mp3s/MS slot. It's my dream unit at roughly $2000
AVN5435 has everything but the HDD I believe, so there's a separate nav disc slot. Ebay for $1500 or so
AVN2494 is last years HDD unit with no preouts and no nav built-in, but capable and can be had for aruond $1200 on ebay. And there's last years nav unit but I don't remember it.

+1 on Eclipse. Ebay wont be authorized though.

Even with the Navi hooked up you can play DVD's, you just gota know how to get around it. I have done it to both the Avic N2 and the D1. You will still need an external DVD play b/c the unit it self can not read the movie formats.
I have the instructions see if i can email them to you if you want to try. It is not to bad so.....

There is no physical Way to make it display A movie with its software, unless you use the reverse camera inputs and its only half screen. I install one about every month. Ive only had sucess under 5mph. From the reps mouth the ONLY way to bypass this is by editing the software. Ever notice the glitch on boot up always says Improper parking brake connection. and I know the D1 isnt a DVD player, i stated this in my previous posts. It doesnt even have THX DTS or Dolby Digital, so really its not good for Movies, unless you get a higher end DVD player with these features but your only gonna get descent audio from the Player. I did the install in a H2 Hummer with headrests, 20 LCD in the rear and Honestly I like the D1 but hate the fact you have to use an external DVD Source
I have done this three times and has always worked twice with a D1 and two times with a N2 and I have not changed any software. This is only to help out give it a try the worst that could happen is you need to get a new GPS antenna. Again not trying to come off in the a dickhead way just wanna help.
Well first the parking brake needs to see 12 volt then it needs to see a negative trigger.
Relay set up for this is as the following:
86 and 30 go to fused 12 volt.
87a to Ground
87 Brake wire input from brain.
85 to Ground with a switch
To bypass the Navi you have to trick the unit to think the VSS and the GPS antenna are not hooked up.
You’ll need 3 relays for this.
#1
86 fused 12 volt
87a VSS wire to the car
87 VSS wire to the Avic
85 Ground with a switch
30 NOT USED
For this part you will need to CUT the GPS antenna and strip it back and separate the wires inside.
#2
86 fused 12 volt
87a to the GPS antenna that has been split
87 to the Avic Brain
85 Ground with a switch
30 NOT USED
#3
86 fused 12 volt
87a the GPS antenna that has been split
87 to the Avic Brain
85 Ground with a switch
30 NOT USED
All the 85 poles can be on the same switch that is grounded.
For relay #2 and 3 I used a DPDT 12 volt relay from radio shack part number 275-206 the GPS antenna has a specific set measured resistance

Again This is UNHOOKING THE GPS which i stated you can do. But the N2 has a Gyro so i know it doesnt work on that.
The relay setup has been discussed but you wont have GPS. I know you can do it this way. Its common electronics. But Unlike most units you can just ground this takes alot more. and Since when did they need to see 12V ? its always ground on the N2 D1 and the AVH5700DVD. D1 needs double trigger ground and N2 need ground. D1 if not grounded all GPS options are locked out. So there is no way to make it all work together, until the D2 is release with a built in DVD player and editable EPROM Software.
