ok 1st off the car your looking at is an SR5, not a GT-S. so alot of stuff is different, like the, brakes, rear end, gas tank, wiring harness, engine, etc. and as far as coupes go i love my ae86 coupe. their lighter and a little stiffer than the hatches. the only reason fags like the hatches is cause of Initial D. coupes are better.

When you say "the swap", do you mean just an engine, or to swap everything to make it a GT-S?
Just out of curiosity, what features make you want a AE86?

i would say, just get gts if you can. or find a realllly realllly cheap sr5..i mean less than 100 bucks. or its just not worth the time and money.
good luck man.

Vang has an AE86 GTS coupe with title and everything, check it out... http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=257267&highlight=ae86
bill is right but to someone just getting in to one the differences dont matter at all and prob wont even be noticable.
i have a 16v 4age if u need it.
if u have an sr5, u have the 4ac single cam, carbed motor. making like 80hp to the crank.like 60 to the wheels. correct me if i am wrong mark or bill
u dont have an lsd, or the rear disk brakes either.
point being it will be a fun car to get started with, but it will be expensive to catch up to at least gts specs. it'll be hard to drift in this condition too. dont get me wrong it is completely possible but alot harder than learning with a 240 or sumthing like that
but corollas are the best if u put the time into it you will love it.

Ae86 coupe is 60 lbs lighter than the hatch and the body is stiffer because of less open area in the rear. And they look better. I'd say go for it!
they look better. I'd say go for it!
i would want one, my same car but coupe

Marksaccord has a Hatch prepped and ready for paint. Hes taken a lot of time to prep it, he even has a body kit for it too. If the hatch was done right it would be pretty fucking mean... I think it has all you need on it already. Just needs an engine. Ask him what he wants for it. ~ Mike

I've had mine converted over. I didn't want the hatch just because It was so popular. Everyone is right on the differences. My rear end, brakes, and sus is changed over. I just have to change the tank and lines. But if you have some bigger plans in mind, buying an SR-5 doesn't really kill you since you'll be upgrading those pieces anyway.
I bought mine with the intention of stuffing a KA24 in it and then turboing that. So the engine issue really didn't matter since I will loom my own harness and do my wiring. The car is great though stock, although the engine is so anemic it's not even funny. It's a far cry from my old blacktop 240, but that's the price for change.
Buy the car if you like it, but know it will take work to make it a competent drift machine. Good luck.

i love the hatches, i like the style and i like the room.. but thats only if i was keeping the interior and shit. i just like hatchbacks more.. but if its just for drifting go with whatever fits your style more. and make it work. your gonna have to put money into whatever your buying.
basically the only thing the hatch is better for is hauling shit. like extra wheels and tires for drifting. it can hold sumthing like 8 wheels back there, with the seats down

Why does everyone like the 86 so much? Sure they got 50/50 weight but cant you do that if your going to strip a car anyway? Wouldnt a miata be better or something.
i like the looks of them, and handling.they are classic car. keiichi or however u spell it, raced them and he is the one who is basically responsible for drifting being here today. so basically it was the original "drift car". its a cult classic.
plus they are all the rage. if u get a panda trueno u are super cool and u can pretty much out drift anyone in the world, unless they have a panda trueno too. or they are japanesey.
