You basically need to replace everything or it's going to sound shittier than the factory setup did.

i will replace the mids and highs, but i was told that i need to bypass the factory amp. i know i can just hardwire each speaker from a new speaker wire from the back of the unit. but that would be tooooooooo much work considering lexus's are very hard to take apart. soo i was planning on just tapping in the speaker wires, from the back of the unit, to the OEM harness. tat would eliminate extra work. but after doing tat i still need to bypass the OEM amp. anyone done this before???????

Done it on my 94 GS300
Get a wiring diagram for your car, find what wires run from the factory headunit, to the amp, then connect the same one that runs from the amp to the speakers. Then you gotta splice the aftermarket headunit wires into the factory wiring harness, because they dont make em for our cars unforunatly.
But itd be alot cleaner of an install if you just renrun the wires straight from the back of the headunit to the speakers themselves instead of connecting all these separate wires from the front of car, to the back of the car (thats where my factory amp was) and then back up to the speakers
all you gotta do it take the door panels off and pull the carpet up by taking off the panel in the bottom of the door jam and being you are replacing the mids and highs, just connect the wire to those
let me know if you need anymore help

hey thanx for the hints. yes i will need further help. what if i want to use my factory SUB in the back dash???? i really need to know if my car has how many amps. i was told that i need to use a volt meter to find the right wires for power and ground. also, i was told that i can BYPASS the factory amp and make it work with a aftermarket unit to control the SUB. please, reply with more info.

I had to by an after market amp to get the sub to work. all you do is run the remote wire and RCA cables from headunit to the amp, then run your power wire from battery, set a ground like you would do with any other set up, and then just splice the wires from the sub to the amp

THose are the wires that are in the back of the headunit to the amp, I cannot find a diagram of the wires from the amp to speakers, i was lucky enuff to come accross them for my car on ClubLexus.com. Like i said earlier, itd be a simplier and cleaner install if you just reran the speaker wires straight from the HU to the speakers

hey thanx for your time bro! i think my plans are to just wire the speakers straight from the head unit. imma do more research to find the wireing diagram. i still need to know which wire is the power and such so that i can splice into the factory harness. i will post more later if i run into any problems or have further Qs. thank you VERY much LEXUS

To get to the factory amp, pull out the glove box and it is on the right side. It unplugs and then you can plug a regular Toyota harness to wire directly to your aftermarket radio.

thats what they told me. the wiring harness didnt fit my car. behind our stock headunits are like 3 seperate wiring harnesses and its really gay, lol
just need a wiring diagram and you can splice and crimp all the wires together and get it working just fine

so you're saying that i can just get a wiring harness and plug it in from where the factory amp disconnects? have you dont this to a 98 GsS400 before? please go into details. the more the info, the better it is for me.
i was told from pples that the factory harness doesnt have any color besides black. so basically all the wires are black and is wrapped together. i plan on taking out the stock radio to check, but im still trying to figure out where the bolts are on the radio.
does anyone know how to get the stock radio out? without damaging anything?

This is how I did it in my car:
Put car in Neutral so you can open the ashtray and tug on it to pull it out. Pull on it firmly, but put some muscle into it. It may not seem to want to come out, but it will if you tug on it hard enuff
Above my A/C Controls is a clock, I used a flat head to pry it out, disconnected the wires and set it aside, you should now see bolts holding the AC Controls and Radio into the dash, just take em off and unscrew the radio from the harness that holds the radio and AC controls together.
IDK if you got this part yet or not, but if the headunit it single DIN then you can get the dash kit that I got from TM Engineering
http://www.tmengineering.net/diy/kits/index.html
bolts right into where the factory unit was and you can then put your aftermarket headunit right in and has a little slot underneath to store shit etc, when/if I turbo my car im puting some nice gauges there, but right now its when i throw my CDs when im too lazy to stick them in the holder I have on my visor ;)
