has anyone else ever had this problem. my SS just started running hot today at standstill, however, the ac still blows cold (well it did until i turned the car off) and the motor cools off while i'm driving. i'll probably take it in for service this weekend any suggestions until then? any help is greatly appreciated! thanx in advance.

btw its a 2001 camaro ss it has a little over 80000 miles on it. i run it hard but haven't for a while which is why this is so surprising.

do you still have the wind deflector thing? radiator fans both working? any junk on the radiator?

Thats usually a sign of either a fan not working or a thermostat going bad.

I didn't know 2001 camaro ss's had accurate, working temp gauges. :dunno:

well it went all the way to 260 (check gauges). i figured that it might have been how hot is was today but i let the car cool off and restarted it and after about 5 mins the temperature started to climb again. the fans seem to be woriking but i havent checked the radiator for any gunk itself yet nor have i checked the air deflector. thanks for all the input.

260+ is heads warping kinda temp. you check to see if you have any coolant? if its getting that hot, sounds like your fans arent kicking on. try jumpering your relays and find out.

Dumb question, but is your serpentine belt still there?

1. turn car on, let temp rise, pop hood and visually make sure both fans come on at temp
2. check radiator for bags, paper, etc
3. check radiator deflector
4. check coolant level and color
5. check thermostat is opening at temp
