When the motor in my z blew, i got all pissed off and yanked the head unit out. it was wired to the stock harness. the end of the stock harness was cut off for some retarted reason. obviously the wires are different colors, from the head unit to the harness. i've hooked up many sound system's in my day, but its been a good year and a half if not more. here's my question - do i have to just go bye trial and error(find power, ground, and remote) and then try the different wires to find the right speakers? or is there an easier way. if any on know where i can find a wiring diagram for a 86 nissan 300zx, that would make it alot easier too.
oh ya, not like it matters, but the head unit is just an older pioneer. maybe about 2 years old.

If your stock harness is all cut up, then yeah, you're just going to have to figure out which wire is which...which isn't too hard actually. Use a multimeter to find constant, ignition, and ground, and then us a battery to pop the speaker leads and figure out which is which.

sometimes theres a wire diagram on the stock head unit. seen it on an explorer once but i doubt you still have the stock hu to check.

Do a little soul searching online before you start guessing, I found a wiring schematic for my grand prix electrical system in 5 minutes. But if you cant find one find the power and ign and gnd with an ohmsmeter and then use a 1.5v battery to search out the speaker leads. whatsever is left is probably the illumination and/or serial data. I also found that if you pull the plastic back a ways you can find the speaker leads twisted together within the bundle.
