:)
A side benefit of commiting your time to running events is that you end up going to all of them. Makes year end championship standings easier to climb. Of course it doesn't hurt to be in a class where most of your competition is driving your car.
Hope you (and a bunch of others) make it out.

Leonard, I take it you're done with the move? How do you like it up there?
Wish I could be there but I am planning to go over to the BMW Summerblaze in Orlando...

I'm about half done with the move. I drove up last weekend. The movers put my stuff into storage yesterday. I'm staying in a corporate apartment while I look for a new house.

So brian is doing the pratice course. Someone please remind him we don't all have go karts and just because the SCCA makes a Min gate width doesn't me you have to make all the gates that narrow.

Did you ever consider that the gates can't be super wide because brooksville is barely wide enough to make a decent course?
If you want straight shots with no challenge to negotiate, go drag racing.

Interesting point. I was going to stay over and try to surf on Sunday morning... my tires are also very bad... but I might try.

:wtf:
I'm not asking for a drag strip, I'm asking to drive something similar to what I will find at nationals in 2 months. Other event sites that have the same conditions (whitehouse in jax, and gcac) manage to get wide gates and non 1st gear slaloms. Jesse will do a fine job on sunday, I just fear the pratice course will be tight like in the past.

The last event I saw you at, you were bitching non stop about it being too tight. There was plenty of room. It could have been driven in my lightning.
You should be thanking people like Brian for all the effort they put in rather than bitching because the course they arrived early to setup and design for you.

You don't know Ian, he likes to whine!!! :-P
I won't be there. I will be at the Sunriders event in St Pete, since I will be driving to Orlando after the event on Saturday.

Decided to be friendly. Fine Lenord I'll drive the course and shut up and maybe when you guys get some experience you'll learn and look back on how bad the courses were.

I have to agree with Ian here (before he edited his post!). Most of us had issues with the last course, not only was it frustrating for drivers but also for those working the course! That's way too much running for me! I know, I'm out of shape, I'll start working out again one of these days! :-D
I do wanna say a BIG thank you to all those who work very hard in putting these events together, and to those designing the courses, I wouldn't know where to start if you ask me to do it! :dunno: But, we should all work together to make these courses more "friendly" to everyone at the event, big and small cars. And help those who plan to make it to Topeka this year! CFR is really the only option we have for good courses. We all know what GCAC courses are like, BMW CCA courses are fun but not National level, Sunriders are really short courses, so that only leaves CFR courses. They're always technical and need to be National level courses. Let's make it happen!
Hope to see everyone this weekend!

And maybe when you actually contribute, you won't throw stones at the people who enable you to get your experience with no effort on your part.
Just remember... "that's not stock!!!! "

Oh leonard leonard, I remember lots of things and that was the rest of the class crying that I was faster. And when you some day (never will happen) are faster is when I won't laugh at you for bringing that up.
Let me also say that running an event is like holding public office.... You must expect critisim and you should learn from it, And you certainly can't snap back when people don't like what your doing.
Thank you Jamal for agreeing with me.
Oh and Leonard, I did volunteer to do this course but Apparently Brian is the only one who can do it friday afternoon so he's got a monopoly on the pratice set up. I'd happily get there at whatever time needed Sat. morning.
Drive jesse's course sunday, He always does great coures.

Keep on keepin' it civil, guys. :) Don't want to lock a useful thread.
I think everyone here agrees (except maybe Leonard) that the courses sucked on 5-21 and 5-22.
The problem is that if you believe these courses are indicative of every course that Brian designs, you are wrong. I can't recall ANY other courses that sucked at Brooksville. Although I didn't particularly care for Danny's state champ course, but I understand why it was done that way.

yeah in the latest CFR checker I made a comparison between the state champs and the may courses. they were all definitely tight, but thats only feedback, not a complaint. of course for june i wasnt there, so no comment.
thankfully i drive a miata, hence no problems with uber small gates. shoot, make it tighter and us miata drivers may have a chance against mcilvanie, the supernatural wonder from mays event day (and ian for that matter)

Brian is also not to blame for May's tight courses. That was my, and someone else's fault for not executing Brian's map correctly. I'm perfectly happy to accept criticism for the things I do with the club, most of us are. Usually I try to make things better for future events. When I keep in mind that the majority of my "customers" are happy at and with my events.
There will always be people that would like it better if it were some other way, and there will be days when we can make those people happy too. At any rate it's easy to have an influence on the way events are run, jump in and help. Like anything else you have to keep your expectations realisitc. You wouldn't expect a volunteer organization like Habitat for Humanity to let you design a home on your first day. Similarly you can't expect to take over running events by simply stating "I wanna". Spend some time helping and learning the way things are and make suggestions. If you have experience with other clubs of course that will help too. Show a persistent interest in making our club better and you'll find that you have lots of influence with us.

I do appreciate the work you guys put forth don't get me wrong. I've never been able to make a dent in CFR towards actually getting to chair some events and maybe thats because I travel elsewhere and see that at most other SCCA clubs they completely ignore the saftey rules set up in the rule book. Hell I think buccaneer thinks the 60mph thing is a min speed not a max speed regulation. I've chaired Many Many events over the years so i'm not a newbie to it by far. Hell I've been autoxin for 7 almost 8 years. Just cause I haven't chaired anything in the last 2 years doesn't mean i've forgotten the work it takes. I've probably done 10 martin events and a similar amount of Dixie events. It's alot of work, your first there and last to leave and any complaints get directed straight at you. And you can make the course as tight as you want when I've got the M3. It's Darn near as narrow as a miata but I have Torque.... HAHAHA and great gearing, No course is bad for my gearing.

Ideally, it would be nice if everybody liked the course. Just because it's challenging doesn't make it a bad course. Yes it was very tight. Yes there were points that you had to slow down for. Yes, it punished mistakes. None of those things make it bad. If anything, they force you to be a better driver.
Unfortuantely, I won't be able to make it to the event Sunday as the drive is just too far.
