About time is damn right.

DDay ought to be on, we have a number of pre-regs, but anyone who is thinking about it needs to get signed up!

***COROLLA ROLL CALL***

Regarding the event coming up.

Are any other corollas from the area gonna be driving? It gets lonely out there... surrounded by 240s... scary.

Maybe we can take rides and learn from each other. From my limited experience drifting, the driving tactics that work in other cars can't really be applied to ours. So the best way to learn something is to show up!

So come on AE86 people! How about registering?

that's not true. i've driven corollas, 240s, a lexus and a corvette and they all got sideways pretty much the same way. you just have to take in consideration the weight and power differences and learn how the car reacts to certain techniques.... it's the driver, not the car. a good driver can get in any car and drift it without prior knowledge of it. might take a lap or two but it's all the same physics basically.

I don't know if I agree with that one, and it seems like you're saying that Mark is a newb, and you're a good driver??
Someone who learned how to drift in a car that has low end torque, wider power band, power steering, longer wheel base, who then gets in a car that is under powered, has to keep it in the upper revs, no power steering, shorter wheel base is going to have a hard time, physics major or not.

I know this is going to be argued, I just can't see how you can say that "drift one car, you can drift any car"....
:dunno:

then maybe it just comes natural to me, but it's like riding a bike... once you get off the training wheels you're ready for mountain bikes or bmx bikes or w.e. and in regards to the underpowered theory, the only problem that I had was the no power steering, was practicing in a bone stock 82 base model rx7 no power steering open diff body rollllll... and I use to own a SR5 corolla, teh only laws that changed was doing stuff you cant do with an open diff and no power..like pro-longed high speed drifts. it's just my opinion, but i think it's really true. if you think you have skill, try getting in someone elses car for the first time and doing just as good as if it were your own car and you've been driving it forever. that to me is what makes a good driver, a GOOD DRIVER

I am a newb. I just think that people learning to drift will benefit from sharing. The corolla may be just another car to a pro like you. But in the beginning cars seem very different from each other. If a 240 driver says something like "just clutch kick at the start" to a beginng corolla driver the car won't give the same result for the same command.

For me personally driving a 240 seems way easier to do anything involving the gas pedal. And I try to drive it differently than a corolla. Maybe I'm not experienced enough to drive it the same way.

Anyhow, one day I will be good enough to just jump into anything and drift it. But until then...

gold 300zx with stuffs
and yes the heat will blow major ass

ps: Matt is totally right, "jumping into cars" and being pro is like the opposite of reality. I have 2 300's who are identical from the factory and they are 2 completely diff. cars to drift or even drive for that matter. I've driven 240's that slide like no other stock with shit broken susp. and i've driven what seems like an identical car with stock susp. but dosent do as well. It boils down to you have to KNOW the car before you can make it do what you want. granted some cars make drivers look better than they are but they must still KNOW the car before that can happen.

pss: wow my ps is too long

psss: did you guys know there is a little round piece on the back of an auto. crankshaft that isnt on a manual that will CRUSH 2 pilot bushings in a row that you try to put in before you realize that piece shouldnt be there after it pwns you for hours. well i do now. and its a mother to get (cut/chisel/bash) out. ok

yes, you're right... you press the gas to go, and brake to stop, its a totally different thing, what was i thinking.

how are you going to comment about someone you've never seen drive before and say they have no idea what they are talking about? especially you of all people... mr "oh man look at all these guys, they suck they are spinning out on every turn" at hialeah speedway, and then you go out and spin out on the straight part of the track, not even on the turn. so do a little more research before you try sonning someone on the internet. you must have paid enjuku a lot to drive that car... you should quit drifting and work for a bakery since all you're good at doing is doughnuts. now go ahead and close this thread baby.

Reactive vs. Proactive drivers

some drivers react to what the cars going to do and other drivers tell the car what to do.

Durdan
08-12-2005, 09:21 AM
granted, corollas and other cars take different techniques, but in all reality, its the same mindset between them all. so yes, i agree, an excellent driver will be able to do whats needed regardless the car. im trying to get the car done in time for dday. lets hope for the best and i will see you all out there. and i hope this alchemist kid is really good bc that would just add the icing to the cake.

Yes, I'll be at DDay, no, I wont be driving the event, Spectating only. My cars not ready for it, and quite frankly neither are my skills. Call me a fanboy if ya wanna, Im a fan of the sport not of the "drifter image."

So are we going to stay on topic with my point of jumping in someone elses car you've never driven before and drive it at the track to tandem with? I don't think you'll be able to do too well like that. Or even better, we will switch cars to tandem with, or bring both Enjuku cars so power is an even situation if you aren't good enough to jump in someone elses car. :-D

Matt is very analytical, and he can definitely drive, regardless of his E-speak.

If alchemist can do well enough in the morning heats, maybe we can set it up, but it will most likely be a case of not allowing it to happen for insurance purposes.

ok, cars are basically the same with obvious differences due to wheel base/power/weight. being able to adapt to that within about 2 hours of driving, a few laps is not enough to really get a hold of it since you do not have enough track time to 'test' different speeds/angles/shift points/etc.

now yes for driving a car, a good driver can aggressively drive any car they get into. to drift any car it is part driver, but you cannot be doing it that well right away if its a totally different car. You can EASILY drift the car immediately, but that doesn't mean its gonna look good/correct.

good luck tho, i mean, matt only gets to drift his car (at speeds my car tops out at) a few days every month about. im sure he has to worry about proving himself to you. you however, better combo that track pretty quickly or youre gonna look funny with your foot in your mouth.
