Just picked up some 10"s to replace my old "eBay special' 15".

Im looking to build a vented/ported enclosure to get the best sound out of them.

Specs from the manufacturers site for each speaker:
SPL 90 dB
Fs: 40.1 Hz
Vas: 0.81 cu.ft.
Qms: 3.47
Qes: 0.60
Qts: 0.5124
Xmax: 0.6"
Sealed box: .5 cu. Ft.
Ported box: 1.15 cu.. Ft.
Tuning: 39 Hz
Port Size: 3”(dia)x8.6”(length)
# of ports:1

Havent built anything but sealed enclosures, in a long time.
My questions are:
Can I tune the enclosure a little lower than the specs? Maybe around 35Hz?
And does any one have a build program (especially the REALLY nice one that gives you cut dimensions for the MDF) that can forward it to me or run a senario for these subs?
I want to put 2 in, with the ports in the middle of the subs. Only maximums are width (32" to fit between the shock towers) and about 16" high (to clear the rear deck speakers. Depth is open, but I dont want to lose my whole trunk either.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance....
Chris

you can tune to whatever you want, the speaker will curve below its fs point. if you tune to 35hz and the fs is 40 then the +5db boost you will get from the box tuning will cancel out(or be reduced greatly) by the subs increased resistance.

with such a high Fs I would build at the Vas point to get the most out of your lows, or go with the 35hz tuned box for louder midbass, but dont expect to get good lows out of it.

why tune so low!
not much recorded sound down there plus if you dont have the power and dynamic head room in your amp it will just a waste of time
tune it around 45 hz and the db boost will roll of low anyway

IMO, you should stick to the manufacturer's specs...afterall, they probably know best what their subs can do safetly. What kind of subs are they? From the specs, they look to be more of an SQ sub. What amp will you be running them off?

Thanks guys...

I thought that tuning the enclosure to less than recomended specs probably wouldnt work well, but I have always tuned to 30-35Hz for larger speakers. This is the first set of 10" that I have built a box for.

They are just a set of Power Acoustik FUBR-10 Dual 2ohm, not the greatest but I am hoping for a tighter, cleaner bass than the 15" currently in the car. I will be using a Power Acoustik Digital Class D to power them.

I want to lean more towards the SQ setup on these but I hope that I can still get some boom from them.

Thanks for all the input so far...
I'll be building something as close to manufacturer specs as I can. Any help with the build program or some box/port size help? I want to have slot vents not round tube vents. Conversion?

slot vents are the worst for SQ bro, they limit the air flow to one side of the vent. rule of tumb is to have at least the diameter of the port distance from every wall of the box. Slotted = boom, not quality.

10s will give you much tighter bass though, but I fear you wont have the lows that you had with the 15. Fubars are good for midbass though, i have one 12 and it wet the bridge in a ported box at 36hz
