I still suck, so the blind can only lead the blind so far..
but are you hitting the brakes?
Hitting them too hard can slow the front of your car too fast almost always guaranteeing a spin.

how is everyone going to hate on this guy? he is asking for help, and is just getting into the sport. yes, you could say its bandwagon now but guess what, WE ALL ARE.... japan was the birth place... not United States and definitely NOT FLORIDA.
that said...
if you are simply revving the engine out and popping the clutch to 'keep the slide' you could be doint many things wrong
1) too much rev in teh clutch kick
2) too much throttle after gear is re-engaged from kick
3) too much wheel turn in to the turn
4) maybe even too much ebrake (too long)
5) if you jabthe foot brake, or use it heavily, it will induce more slide angle (overseet/spin) [it is a more advanced drift to work and is used for higher speed and declining radius (turns that get sharper as you go)]
also, if you are pulling the ebrake at the apex, you are starting way to late... you want to start your slide where you would normally turn in, and eventually even before that point.
to help yourself improve try practicing in the rain without the use of the ebrake, just give a slight clutch kick and ease the gas pedal up/down to adjust angle. you want to turn normal into it (normal amount of steering)
and once you use the clutch kick, you should get the car set in the slide, (with countersteer staying still) and use the throttle (some slight steering) to turn the car and pull it out of the drift.
tahts a basic starting point, once you get really good in the wet, try that dry with the ebrake or wahtnot. just keep at it, takes more than a week or 2.
yes, thew hicas is also a problem.. that system was designed for higher grip turns... so u need to get rid of it for the best results

Their is from time to time generally some good info so it's not all bad, but most of the time it's just drift slurs/slang i don't know ,boastful threads , and pass/fail posts.

Eluder, I am interested in drift, but do not wanna start out drifting, I wanna start by bettering my driving skills with auto-x.. 240's dont HAVE to be sideways to be cool =) Although I will most likely move into drifting, I enjoy these forums as a base knwoledge for 240 owners, problems and solutions, used parts sales.. etc.
That being said, i really dont think that reading text will help your drift in one bit, tidbits of info if you take them for what their worth might help you get a idea, but seat time ( Within a safe enviornment) is the only thing that will help you drift...
Good luck sliding.

Good luck sliding. Yeah , i'am not bashing drifting or anything , just not sure it's something i'd want to get into, i definetely agree with you about advancing your skills before starting to drift. Many people have several thousands invested in their cars , it would not be cool to see a badass car wrapped around a pole, or in a ditch , or smashed into a tree (you get the idea). But i just think that's it's lame that everybody with a 240sx think's they are some kind of super 1337 drifting god, and some n00b's would just be better off with their honda's then their 240's i've seen too many wrecked/totaled 240's to justify their cause. As for me , i'am going to be putting together a all around sports car, i really do not plan on drifting my car, i already have way too much invested in it as it is.

Talk about yourself, dont talk about your cousin. You hit a freakin pole when it was wet in your own neighborhood when you had the car for like what, a few weeks?? Your windshield was cracked, hood was fu*ked up, broken wiper motor. HAHAHA and doing what..8mph? You tailwhipped it, then i guess you kept your foot on the gas, so it spun a complete 360 degree, then you hit the light pole...oh man, i wish you could catch it on camera. And you had absolutly no clue that it was comming
Yes his sigature is funny, but i doubt that its his

Dont do stupid things like Onis14 did when he first got his car. He had no clue that the back end was going to give. He didnt know its potential until he saw a big ass crack on his windshield.
Know the 240sx limits, which takes a while of driving, cant be found out overnight too easily. For drifting, beginners must ALWAYS learn how to control the car while the back end have very little traction 1st, which is where the wet roads come into play. Drifting in the rain is all about control of the steering wheel. Clutch kicking and weigh shifting will help, but its not always needed in the rain. Just a slight gas, then the back end will give. After that, adjust the amount of acceleration to keep the tires from gripping the surface during the slide. After that, try using the Ebrake, dont brake drift yet, thats after it. After you get really good at sliding around corners of orange cones, or building, then try drifting on dirt roads. then step up to dry roads with cheap hard tires that you can find at the junkyards.
Drifting can be done in different stages. Some people have started out on dry roads. Theres no rule to how you should learn it because youre suppose to figure it out on your own, but this is my tip as i said from above. Mud slinging and ice drifting, whatever its called, is a good way to start to drift. Team 15 started to learn how to drift this way for the most part. Make sure you learn how to do it in a group, or have a friend watch you from the outside to tell you what your doing wrong or right.
I shouldnt post this info w/o Team15's permission, but i know they dont mind because i know they dont want to see another 240 down in the junkyard for stupid drivers who try to drift for the 1st time.
Kid...dont try too hard, drifting isnt as easy as it sound, it takes time and plenty of practice.

240's dont HAVE to be sideways to be cool
Funny, with a few exceptions, I don't think the 240 is really cool at all :dunno:
How are your tires? Tires that are too far gone (missing chunks, etc) will not hold up to the lateral forces and just give up under any kind of sideways action.

i made the name when i liked them, like 3 years ago, since then, i have driven other cars that felt better and more solid, idk, i just don't really like how 240's feel anymore, when i liked them, i hadn't had anything to compare them to except a ford tempo and ford explorer. the ricer thing is referring to all his other posts, which suck. btw i want to change my sn, i'm just to lazy to pm an admin to change it lol.

on topic tho, you should learn to rev match without looking at the revs, how to heel-toe, or as i do, side-side (i use the sides of my foot). know what speed each gear tops out at. and know how to take a racing line with good speed/no understeer.

number one i wouldn't recommend practicing on the street... go to the legal events like taylor and a few others mentioned... there you can get ride alongs with experienced drivers...

Have you had enough experiance driving 240s? I know you driven the S13 a few times, but the S14 handling is so much better. Ive driven your Supra a couple of times, and compare it to my S14, ill keep my car any given day. Supras are much heavier, thus have a heavy, solid feeling.
Of course theres other cars that handle better than 240s, but most of them are beyond the price of 240s.

sandy you've never driven my supra. and i was referring mostly to s13's, i like how s14's feel and drive, but from driving vang's corolla comparing that to driving the s13's it felt a lot better, idk, maybe it was because all the s13's i drove were beaters, but the corolla was a beater too.

it prob was because they were beat, one was manual and was tweaked as hell, one was auto and crappy, one was auto and the head gasket was almost blown, one was auto and i don't think the rear tires were balanced. i do love the steering angle lol. someone let me drive there non beater 240, lol.

Wont this cause the car to understeer? Pushing the brake pedal applies to ALL 4 wheels! Whats the need to pull on the Ebrake for?
Tip: NEVER EVER pull the ebrake while the foot is on the acclerator! It will cause the rear axle to disassemble from the car COMPLETLY! Theres a clip on streetfighter.com of a mustang on a drag strip, the guy pulled on the ebrake and it fell off the car.
