So I finally got everything put on the car and tuned at CFT yesterday. I ended up with 242awhp/228tq and 17 psi. I am very pleased with their tuning and would recommend them to anyone with a UTEC. I'll try and post the dyno sheets when I get home tomorrow.

What mods did you have? Also what kind of dyno?

How much $$$ did they charge.

$350 for the tuning. It took over an hour for them to get it all finished, plus they charge a minimum of $350 for a complete tune of one UTEC map. A little steep, but the car runs absolutely amazing.

They didn't tuned my 4th and 5th, it detonates on high boost like a mother....

I was not so happy about it after paying $350++ I have to take it in again and pay more.

It runs awesome in low boost 14-15psi, and awesome in high boost until I hit 4th gear then the CEL flashes.

Good numbers for a stock turbo. They are good people but on my case they could have done a little better.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with them. They told me if my car knocks at all, to write down at what rpm and what gear and they will take care of it. So far it only knocked twice when I was WOT in 2nd, but I also went a bit past 7000 rpms.

Other than that one time, everything has been running perfectly with no more knocking.

*edit*
Well tonight I was messing around with my friend in his evo and I peak boosted at 20 psi. I'm pretty damn sure that this isn't a safe amount of boost to run on a stage 2 wrx. I'm going to call CFT in the morning and have them fix this shit before I blow my motor.

Same thing that happened to me, I thought everything was great until I got on the highway, but I was playing with a 350z and I felt the hesistation just for a few seconds then it was fine, I didn't think much about it until I read what the flashes ment.

Then I had electrical problems, which turned out to be bad/lose grounds, but now that the car if running great, in low boost, I want to take it back for more dyno time.

if you are running stock turbo and fuel you shouldnt boost more than 16.5lbs. you will be running WAY to lean. what is your set up?

please post your dyno graphs and your UTEC loggs

CFT doesnt take these cars out on the street after they dyno tune them?

davcivic

Not mine, don't know if they do other times.

They said they where going to tune or give it a pass all the way to 5th, but they never did. They had another customer waiting, I don't think they did.

I'm taking it in again to have it done, hopefully this week.

Or if I can find a better tuner do it with them.

I can plug into the Utec my Dell Laptop doesn't have a serial port. I just purchased a serial to usb cable, I'm going to try and connect tonight.

They took mine out after they tuned it and ran it through the gears a few times. I thought they did this for all their customers. :dunno:

Anyways, I brought it back today and had them fix my overboosting problem. I'm back at 17 psi and everything is running fine, althought a few times it did spike to 18 psi. I have a run through 3rd gear saved on my gauges that shows the boost issues if anyone wants to see it at the clearwater meet..

Just out of idle curiosity, have you tightened your wastegate arm at any point during ownership?

Thus, another example of why 'Dyno tuned only cars' are not safe for the street. You guys should not have to pay another dime for street tuning since they released your cars that were not safe. I wonder what CFT's stance would be if your cars detted and blew a piston. Good luck and keep us posted

No I haven't. Would this provide me with any sort of advantage over how it is now?

Dyno tuning is great to finish up a car. Mainly timing and finding MBT. A good tuner knows to back off timing a couple degrees once they find MBT. I'm sure this is CFT's practice. They cant stay in business blowing customer's cars up

Well I've heard stories, that I can remember a type-r integra and 2 evos, that they blew on the rollers. Didn't want to pay to fix them.

They make you sign a release or waiver about how you understand that modifying cars can result in blowing them up and shit.

I'm going to call them up to see what they want to do with me.

He told me to get a Carb spring for the wastegate. I have a VF-22. I need to buy it before going back.

They might have had three cars blow up on their dyno but there are a lot of variables and unforseen circumstances as well.

I have a helper spring for the wastegate arm that held my VF 22 at 19psi. Let me know if you want it.

What is MBT?

StiGuy

What is MBT?

Either
MBT (Minimum Spark Advance for Best Torque) The least ignition advance timing that produces maximum torque while holding all other variables constant.

or
MBT (minimum best timing). Advancing the timing further increases the chance of knock and also increases vehicles emissions of hydrocarbons and NOx.

Alpha

Maximum Brake Torque. The optimum spark timing that gives the maximum brake torque. In a very small nutshell when no more power can be gained by advancing the timing throughout the ignition tables. Once you find MBT on a motor rule of thumb is to take a couple degrees out of the corresponding ignition tables.

Tightening the wastegate arm is usually done to eliminate wastegate flutter (something I should do for my car). Too much can cause boost spikes though.

Can't be done on a VF 22.

A little off topic ,but dacivic have any new pics of your car? I remember seeing pics of it and it looked clean as hell.
