im thinking of making my STi wingless? made trade someone that has black 05 wrx. it will give it more of the sleeper look. also painting the intercooler black and also having the wheels powder coated black. :evil4:

hell yea go for it.

the high temp BBQ paint at home depo works wonders, or if you want to take it off have it power coated with the rims. PDXTuning has done a few installs with the power coated FMIC and they looked super schweet and there was no dyno differance.

I'd say go for it, although I think it'll look odd if your STi isn't lowered.

I've thought about de-winging mine, but decided the wing gave it attitude (:dunno:) and functions very well. I'd love to see what a black wingless STi looks like.

springs are already on the way. i have the new perrin ones coming. so it will be lowered. powdercoat wheels black, paint fmic black, clear out head lights. the car would look so much more aggressive

Seriously. Dude. You have a STI. They are NICE. You have some bad ass work done to it. You have the opportunity to build one hell of a car. Intercoolers are sexy. If you had a 17" dick would you be trying to hide it? If your going to remove the wing, get a carbon fiber trunk at least. The WRX isn't the prettiest car on the block, it needs something back there. Without a wing its going to be bland, even ugly. Why, after spending aaallll that money, would you want your car to be ugly? You need to focus on something HOT, yet functional. Don't just yank the wing off cause its different and free.

i say trade it off. it wont draw as much attention plus it sets you off from most of the other sti's. i have never been a fan of big wings though. looks so much sleeker with out it. * secretly in love with the s203 wing*

IMO Sti's look bad completely wingless. The huge scoop looks awkward with nothing on the back to offset it. If you are going to get rid of the basket handle, get a regular WRX spoiler or something else back there. IMO only the regular WRXs can get away wingless cause of the smaller scoops.

If you do the fmic black you dont want to paint it cuz the paint will not allow it to dissipate heat. The coating mine has is literally better than nothing. Its a thermal dispersant coating, it dissipates heat better than raw aluminum. READ HERE (http://www.enjoythedrive.com/content/?id=25290)

thus useing high temp BBQ paint or engine paint. with a front mount you have constant air hitting it. so the heat disperssion really isnt a huge factor.

this is the reason to buy a fmic. to avoid heat soak, more cooling power, and to get the cooling power of the intercooler away from the heat of the engine.

i think you miss under stood what i ment. it isnt a big factor when considering to paint it or not. there really isnt any change at all. this is coming from some of the most reputible tuners in the US. not from me. i am repeating what they have told me.

If you like it wingless, take the wing off. I think they look good either way. And painting an IC doesn't hurt its efficiency.

Faded, you are already a sleeper bro. Why change the STi wing? That will just make people who usually beat or hang with WRX's race you. When you have the STi wing and exterior , the people who race you are either very slow and just want to see hoe fast an STi is or they are fast and are used to beating up on STi's. So, in actuality you are already a sleeper to the ones that matter( people who have raced and beaten STi's) because of your mods.

I definetely say +1 on painting the rims black though!

You bought an STI becuase its a STI and not a stock WRX, who are you trying to sleeper from??? A honda civic who you could handle in the STi in stock form?

I am of the camp that never got the sleeper thing unless you had something real sleeper, like a minivan, station wagon or the sorts.

The STI looks like turd without its wing IMO (which of course is just my opinion, but exactly what you asked for)

I am a huge opponent of Wingless/debadging. Do you buy a ferrari or porsche and take the badges off? HECK NO, be proud of what you have.

i like a bit of each idea, james......

being of the "im an oddball" camp, i say get stuff that you dont see locally at all, and then put a spin on it...

eg:
the JPN wrx wing and riser,
powder the wheels with a matte finish (or at least a semi non-gloss),
and def. do the i/c (but use the correct non-absorbing paint i hear about)...
[perhaps doing a stylized outlined "P" logo on the i/c in stencil format, to give flare...]

and well, sleeper, well, you have a japan musclecar bro, with a sewerpipe sized exhaust that sounds like the PTSA metro busses around here.... i dont think you could fool the def or the blind with that beastie...
