View Full Version : Drama in the Subaru forum ?
wtf guys ?
This is the last place I thought we'd see this stuff on TR.
Heres a couple of quick pointers.
No bashing of shops. Its a long standing TR policy, we just dont allow it. If you have a problem with a shop, contact them. we certainly cant help you solve it and whining on here wont help at all. Its just going to piss the shop off and make them want to resolve the issue even less.
If you feel the need to make a grand theatrical post, and leave in a huff... save us all the TRama and just click the logout button. I am sure you'll be missed or something.
Lets keep it technical and Subaru related. Yes I know threads bashing XYZ shop cos they dissed you are probably remotely Subaru related, but cmon the Subaru community as a whole is better than that. Keep it related to Subarus in general and keep it on track.. no need for TRama in this forum or amongst its members.
I am sure there are some of you who think this is all rather Big Brother and just not fair *sniffle*... well get over it.. i , nor themods dont have time to baby sit you.. and honestly we dont care .. just relax.. take a deep breath.. and be cool.. thats all we ask... we have jobs too ya know.. and if i was making $40 an hour doin this i'd care a whole lot more about your whines..but i'm not so lets just stick to the Subaru related tech.
The End.

A question for any of the admins/mods:
I understand that the Mastro thread got out of hand, but if I have trouble with a shop am I not to mention it at all on TR? For instance, if I say "hey this is the situation, this is the problem I have with XXXX, I am trying to resolve it w/ them, but I wanted to give a heads up to fellow Suby/TR people"? Most of this community is very involved in the aftermarket and I believe civil discussion of shop experiences, good and bad, is very valuable. Like I said the Mastro thread started off on the wrong foot, but had it been addressed in a level-headed way would it have been allowed to continue or are all threads discussing problems with local tuners going to be locked? I only ask because if I was treated unfairly by someone I would not want to see it happen to another person if I could help it. If anyone could answer this for me Id appreciate it.
Oh an +1 for a TRama free Subaru Tech.

I have no problem with people voicing their LEGITIMATE concerns with Mastro on here in a professional manner. As said before if you voice your concern that a neighbors friend has with us in a tasteless manner, then I will respond in kind.
That being said I would appreciate it if it was attempted to be resolved in person, over the phone or via PM before its put on the web.

I have noticed in the past few weeks there has been a large increase of Subaru owners on TR. With a growing amount of people there is also a growing amount of disagreement.

Well from the tone of this post it is plain for all to see that this guy and the shop in question have a lot in common. The same condesending attitude.
Might as well just have come out and told us all to go fuck off as well.
Keep up the good work Zate.

Let me make it clear for you.. you can go fuck yourself... your attitude both in the thread and in PM's makes it obvious your an asshole... if you've gotten bad treatment at Mastro .. and now on here its because your attitude warrants it. I deal with a great many people daily on TR and that leaves me no luxury to give you or anyone else the benefit of the doubt.. with 20,000 registered users and alot of traffic i take stuff at face value and move on... its a private website.. you agreed to the terms and conditions when signing up .. i'm generally a nice guy.. i've been in the subaru community off and on both here and in australia since 96 but you insist on taking what was a simple issue of us not allowing shop bashig here and moaning about freedom of speach and big brother... feel free to exercise another freedom and logout.
To the guy above asking the question about bringing stuff up about shops.. i totally see your point.. but let me explain why we dont want shop bashing in any form.. the main reason is because its subjective info .. someone can come in and post their version.. which may or may not be true .. often times the shop isnt a member on here or doesnt see the thread and it might be just a minor misunderstadning.. alot of factors play into it... TR isnt here to play watchdog, were not here to play go between.. if you have a problem with a shop.. instead of slandering them all over our website .. go talk to them about it.. were not interested in being drawn into your right.. its the same with scammers in the forsale area .. if you have a problem.. take it up with the person... if it persists.. involve the authorities.. same goes for shops.. if you've been ripped off take it up with the authoritories..its not our job.

So outta one side of your mouth you say this^ and outta the other side you get involved by limiting the free communication of opinions and experiences that people are sharing here. Which is it? You either do or you don't get involved? The problem is your decisions are totally subjective, not based on any criteria other then your own bull shit. From the looks of it you don't even know what you stand for. Oh well you'll have that....

According to his f'd up thinking...and he's said it point blank it's 90% chance that it's all your fault. Since he's already been the judge and jury you betta not bother. I suppose we cant all chip in and buy the bill board across the street from Mastro and speek our mind on there either.
Big fat WRONG!!! I 'm sure the owner of the bill board could give a rats ass whose right or wrong just like this guy is trying to make everyone believe he feels too.
But we all know the truth... Oh well you'll have that..... in fucking Natzi Germany :bsflag:

Warning sent with a reminder of the agreement you signed when you registered. If you want to keep being disruptive.. we'll remove you. In fact, we'll give you a timeout from this forum for a while anyhow and let the ruckus die down.

Thanks for the answer. I understand where you are coming from as well. As a user you can see why I may not like the policy, but there are other ways of spreading the word about bad experiences. If I am ever in the unfortunate situation where I feel I have been wronged I will use said alternatives to TR. Again thanks for the clarification and keep up the good work :bigthumb:.

I'm not usually one to step into the middle of a firefight but I'd have to agree with QuickOne here Zate. I'm not demeaning the work you do on here (and I'm sure it's a LOT) but your demeanor quite often is brusque to say the very least. Then you say to B that "your attitude warrants it"? That's like the pot calling the kettle black.
Then to timeout him seems like a RIDICULOUS abuse of power. Why not give him some time after the warning you sent before what seems like a spur of the moment ban? Be careful of what you do it might bite you like the recent "eminent domain" ruling that seems to already be biting the supreme court judge's in their own butt by their house(s) possibly being taken as a result of their own actions (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/07/10/wjudge10.xml&sSheet=/news/2005/07/10/ixworld.html)
Abuse of power seems standard m/o by the person with power when something can't be debated logically. Not that there was a lot of logic here on either side. That's why principle fights are so dangerous because they usually preclude logic. Just like you locking Kickslop's thread about leaving. What rules did that thread violate? How many threads contrary to your own personal beliefs are going to be locked Zate??? "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
YES I realize that there's three truths about shop (and just about every other life) experience: your truth, my truth, and the real truth. I for one take the posts about shop problems and evaluate them knowing the person is venting foremost and still think that they are a GOOD thing.
To me the BIGGEST loss of all this is Jeff (Kickslop) leaving. Thankfully he will still be available on Nabisco.

I totally understand where Zate is coming from people are going to make choices that other people wont like, its reality. I mean I would like to know if a Dealership is ripping somebody off or something of that nature but you also gotta think there are always two sides of a story and that right there will cause drama hence why zate locked the damn thread. So really the only way to keep the subaru tech drama free is to do what hes doing right now deleting the bullshit threads.

I like to enjoy and read TR like anyone else. As most of the people who have met me can attest (hell even my wife) I'm a nice guy .. i dont hate people .. i dont get mad quickly.. I give people many chances. if I am abrupt its because that person has pushed the limits or continues to be something I have to address. Take the subaru forum for instance... we have a whole forum full of people who i DONT have to deal with in an abrupt manner. Its not a personal thing.. i usually take abrupt quick action to make sure i'm not spending hours of my time locked in a PM battle with people about stupid shit .. just enjoy the forum.. enjoy the site .. dont bash shops .. dont be a pain..is that toomuch to ask ? i dont think so because we have a forum full of people who DO enjoy it.. who DO enjoy the site.. who might not like the no shop bashing stance.. but accept it anyhow because it makes it easier on us to run the site without too much drama. Drama being whats going on now.

I'm not sure what the link proves at all ?
This has alot less to do with power and alot more to do with removing someone who is causing a disturbance. .. I dont care if i'm right or he's right or what ever.. its like a bouncer in a club..if your causing issues and detracting from the overall atmosphere of the club .. they kick you out... the club owners dont care if you think its your right to strip naked and shove beer bottles up your ass.. they dont want that in their club.
same as i'd like a relatively drama free subaru forum .. if QuickOne feels the need to start posting in threads abouthow we're natzi's and the site sucks then he becomes a disruption and we remove him.. he's deliberately trying to incite flames.. whether its with me.. another mod/admin or general users its deliberately trying to cause problems..
people always bring up the big brother/nazi/freedom of speech stuff .. we've heard it all before .. its a private website .. were not into curbing anyones freedom of speech but there is a time and place for stuff and certain things we dont want on the board because it opens up a can of worms we dont want to deal with.
for instance.. we used to have a "verbal warfare" forum .. we thought having a special area where people could flame each other and get stuff off their chest would be a good thng .. we were wrong.. things said in there affected how people interacted with each other outside that forum and it made things worse. thats the same reason we like to close off and get rid of things that we know will turn into a flame session..ie kickslops thread.. if he wants to leave.. awesome .. we get a buch of people making i am leaving threads all the time.. 95% of them are still here... but those threads usually end up a flame fest .. same with shop bashing threads.. so we close em to stop the flaming because it will spread outside those threads.. people wont be able to help themselves they will get a jab in at someone who got them in another thread.. case in point Quick Ones comments to me in this thread.. our previous interactions via PM spilled out into here.. i am sure if his access was left open to this forum he'd take every opotunity he could to point out how TR/Me/Anyone else he thought did him wrong.. sucked.
so my basic point is none of its personal ..its in a vain attempt to maintain some kind of order on a website that has 500,000+ visitors amonth and 20,000 registered members .. and its not easy at all... i do what i can to reduce ahead of time the work load by closing threads.

Wow, this is quite amazing. In two days it seems Subaru Tech has become a bash-fest!
I will admit I've had bad experiences at Mastro and a friend is still involved with CFT screwing him over, but will I make a new thread about it? No. Will I tell my experiences to someone who is asking? You betcha.
I feel telling of bad experiences is a-ok, but all-out bashing and telling someone to go to the shop, etc, is not. People need and like feedback on certain shops/things, but too much is enough. A lot of people have had good experiences with Mastro, some have not.
