Ok, so I'm thinking about swapping a 3rd gen 3S into a 6th gen Celica, I was wondering if it would be ok for a daily driver :dunno:
I've seen 3S MR2s that were but was wondering on peoples opinions on mileage and mods.
This would be used to go to school and then home, go out once in a while to buy stuff needed, and some other stuff.

I have been using mine as a daily for a year and a half now almost. Get 25-26mpg. I have had no reliability issues whatsoever. I bought my engine with 45k miles, it has about 60k on it now.

There aren't a whole lot of people with 3rd gen 3S's in their Celicas, besides this complete moron on CelicaTech. That fool has blown his motor and screwed his car up like 201417618756 times. But there are a lot of people running 2nd gen 3S's in their daily drivers for long periods of time with no problems. I'd say go for it.

I was thinking going with a 2nd gen too, I need to get another 6 gen celica first tho.
Thanks for the input too.

Just curious, what are you doing for timing belts and other routine maintence?

I'm planning on putting a 3rd gen 3S-GTE in my 95 convertible. Along with the MR2 tranny.

I drive a heavily modded 2ed gen as my daily. Hasn't really given me shit. Gas milage sucks on it due to my tunning. Only like 15 mpg. On stock ecu you should get atleast 22 highway.

mister3 on the MR2 board stocks the timing belt. Other belts you can get from Advance auto, you just bring the old belts in and they can get you the size. If you want toyota accessory belts, you can order them from the toyota dealer by just getting the part numbers from that thread on www.mr2oc.com in the hybrid forum. Tune up parts (cap, rotor, wires, plugs), I use 93 3SGTE parts. I use NGK platinum spark plugs, I just get one step colder then stock. Valve cover gasket is also carried by mister3 or you can order it just like any other part, you just have to wait longer for it, then a Gen 2 part. MR2 parts in general are so scarce to begin with, you wait either way. There is access to get any maintenance part for the Gen 3 engine with a similar part from a 93 engine. The only maintenance parts that need to be ordered specifically for Gen 3 would be intake, exhaust, valve cover, and throttle body gaskets. All others you get for 93. It's not often you need those gaskets, unless you take the manifolds off, or wear out the throttle body gasket.
