Okay guys, i know this is offtopic. But Last nite i had a dream ( i rarely dream) and I found myself driving a black '71 cuda. coupe. I had a girl in the passenger seat, she was gorgeous, but all i remember is the damn car.
Anyway so im thinking Is this meaning that i need a gf?.. or american muscle?
so i got up online and i found this :

A dream like that means you need to get yourself an American muscle car. Girlfriends don't last forever .

I hope you have DEEP pockets to make that "dream" a reality...both are expensive (women and 71 Cuda's)

c'mon man, thats not helping.
Can you point me in the right direction?
(and i already lost tons of money with an ex gf, and have nothing to show for.) at least with the cuda i can say i made my dream true right?

How much are looking too spend? Do you want a project or something already done? I would start by picking up a classic car trader. You can get them anywhere you pick up an AutoTrader. Or http://www.pjsautoworld.com/1940.htm there on Gulf to Bay. I pass by every day, but you'll pay top dollar. I was in there a few yrs back and the guy I spoke w/ was very nice. I was just browsing through one day.
edit - alot of times the best way to find these cars is sitting somewhere and just inquire or word of mouth.
We've got a friend w/ a Cuda thats been sitting for a while in his shop, I think it's purple, I can't even remember now . Great shape, but needs a motor. We've been trying to get him to get it back on the road for the longest time now, hopefully someday.

The prices on these things are going throught the roof. People see them sell for 100-500k on BJ, so they pass the savings on to everyone else. If anything they are a very sound investment, you won't loose money on it like some brand x'ers. Unrestored they go from 3-5k to 10-15k depending on model. The big block cars are getting the premiem. Mopar Collectors guide is a good source for finding them in all kinds of condition.
And I may be premature but I'm calling BS on your buddies silver Challenger. Prob his dads/uncle/brother or neighbor, but not his. You don't buy a car like that and not have any details on it or know if its the real thing or not. Still a very nice find, I really like it.

A little idea where these things are going. The Mopar crowd has been watching this one for a couple months. Never seems to finalize a deal I guess. Its been listed 3 times that I know of, and its in Fla.

Well lets hope for an unrestored 3-5k one. (like i said, its just a dream, but we're allowed to dream right? gotta start somewhere!).
And i'm confused about the challenger post? was that directed towards me?
And again, thanks to all for the information, you guy have been more than helpful. On a related note. For a beginner, what would a more viable way be?

If it's got tits or tires, it's going to give you problems, but they're both going to be fun to ride in.
Man, of all the cars to fall in love with you have to pick a 71 Cuda?!!!! Don't get me wrong, they are great muscle cars but damn, with 3-5k you stand a better chance of scoring the babe than you do a fixable car. The problem is, any cuda worth saving is a canidate for either a Hemi or 440 6 pack clone. Those car believe it or not can easily get 40k+ for a 6 pack and over 100k for a Hemi. And those are just clones!
As for where to look. I'd say unless that 3-5k becomes 30-50K you just have to look everywhere and hope you get lucky. Seriously, you need to drive down a street and see a cuda in someones backyard or garage and talk them out of it. The problem is, those cars specifically, are probably the single most sought after muscle cars right now. It's unlikely that too many people out there are completely oblivious to these cars having value.
Heres some examples I found of what your money can buy(or not). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6409&item=4560828311&rd=1

This one might actually be a great deal for you. You can solve both your problems at once!:)

Heres an idea though..Maybe look for a 73-74 cuda. I don't think the body work to clone a 71 would be that hard. Dano would know better than me though. Anyway, just an idea. Sometimes you just have to make the best of what you've got.

You would be better off to find a decent 70-73 Challenger...they seem to go a little cheaper for some reason. I saw a done 71 Challenger Prostreeter online in St. Pete for $12,500. I tried to find that same ad a week later and couldnt...maybe it sold.

I'll take door number 3!
That car is super clean, and the blonde ain't half bad either.
It's incredible what some of these cars are getting nowadays. 20 odd years ago I coudn't get $1.500 for a decent looking 69 road runner. So bad that I ended up trading it in when I got married. In 1998 when I started looking for another mopar, i couldn't touch a car that was in the same condition for under 10k. I got lucky getting my Challenger for 5k, although it needed a complete restoration and is still not totally complete, its what I wanted: another big block mopar. This is what 5k got me in 1999. everyone told me I stole it. And my wife thought I was crazy.

that car was sitting on 49th st just north of 46th ave on the west side a few weeks ago, but last time I went by it was gone. It was in a car lot and I stopped to take a look. The car is tubbed, has a cage and a 440. The paint looked like Earl Schieb layed it down but otherwise had lots of potential. I thought it was a 72 or 73, dunno for sure.

I think you were right..72 Challenger and it looked good in the pic for a finished car for $12,500. The paint didnt look all that nice but for the money I would have jumped on it and repainted it.

Here is a true 66 Chevelle SS for 6,600. Just so you can compare. It's somewhat in the range your looking in.

The only thing is for the money you spend what ever you get will probably have to be plain jane and need some work. I bought mine for $1,700 12yrs ago. It was just sitting on the side of the road for sale. It's as plain as you get just had factory a/c. I put the buckets in and did everything else myself. It was appraised about 6yrs ago for $12,500. It's due for paint and body work again though. You can just about bet no matter what you get it will appreciate. Keep your receipts too for everything you do to it. That will help when you get an appraisal and insurance!
I can look for other stuff later but as far as Chevelles go most of the "Buy it Nows" were just over $5,000. Anywhere from 6,000-8,000. Not that you want a Chevelle  but thats just where I started :).

You should get a Dart or Valiant. Theyre pretty cheap and easy to fix up. Theyre also super light nad you can can get any of mopars engines in it. Or a Duster or Demon.
