So i found an '87 supra that am interested in buying. It has a stock jdm 7mgte motor, except for a Titan Motorsports 1.4mm headgasket and ARP Head Studs. Am just wondering what kind of numbers should indicate a healthy motor.

thanks in advance

155 to 160 psi should be close to normal. Most importantly an engine can't have more than 5 psi variance between cylinders.

I know that in some 4 cyl. motors, the maximum allowed variance is about 14psi. Doesnt 5psi seem too little, or is it because its an I-6?

155-160 should be close to normal, but with age expect 140-160. +10 is a better number to rely on...if it was a BHG or something, it'd be like 60; not something mundayne like 1 or 2

The numbers were 150 +- 1. Anyways, i just bought the car :-D

thanks for the info.

Good find... Anytime you can find one that some other poor soul had to do the BHG with is a good deal, :D Especially if they were kind enought to do the mhg with ARPs... Now, to be sure they ARE ARPs, I would pull the valve cover off one side and see... If it's a 10mm hexhead, then they are stock bolts... If its a 12point 1/2 inch then it's an ARP...

Good luck with the car... Now join SupraForums, if you havent already and let us drop knowledge on ya... :D

yeah, the car has many mods and is in a decent condition. Actually, i saw it on the SupraForums, and thats where i got it. I would post the link that has info/pics of it, but the site is down as of now.

Nice find!
Thanks. The car has some issues, like it needs body work and the vacuum lines are missed up. So far, am really satisfied with what i got compared to what i paid for.

My brother was looking to buy that mk3, but he missed out. Your car came with some nice stuff.. Where do you live? And what kind of issues does it have?

I live in new tampa. As i said, it needs a little body work. The bumper is hanging from the passenger side, so i tied it with a string. The paint is not the best. Also, it has a vacuum leak. When the car is idle, its at 15psi. I could see a bunch of lines that are not connected. It needs new spark plugs and a valve cover gasket.

Well if you ever need some help, theres plenty of guys who can work on them around here. I'm not the best with these cars, but I've learned a ton this past year. I can lend a hand sometime if you need. Me and Flubyux2 just got done rebuilding my motor, IdealSupra lended a hand at times,Psifactor had parts I needed available, and Cassio helped me pull the motor for free(Thanks Ian, I owe ya bigtime)..My cars running pretty strong now, just a bunch of minor annoying stuff to handle..
