Alright, I have just aquired 2 12" Kicker L7's with a SX1250.1 Amp. I have a '02 Sentra SE-R and limited trunk space. Bearing in mind, I want these subs to be as loud as possible without taking up my whole trunk. I have talked to some people who said the loudest would probably be a vented enclosure facing the cabin with the seats folded down. But I don't want to drive around town with my seats folded down everywhere I go. What are some other possibilities I would have?

Please elaborate on teh differences between ported and vented. I want to hear this.

port: An opening, as in a cylinder or valve face, for the passage of steam or fluid
vent: An opening permitting the escape of fumes, a liquid, a gas, or steam
From dictionary.com
Ported and vented are the same names for different things.. six of one, half dozen of another type of thing.
Bandpass is a totally different animal.

It's not the boxes fault, its your cars fault. If you put a small sealed, bandpass, snailshell or whatever, the transmission from trunk to cabin will ALWAYS be attenuated from the sheer sheetmetal, and lack of interconneted airspace. IE why Hatches, suv's, trucks, and vans, always seem louder.

oh yeah let me tell my car to stop being a 4 door
Oh and to get to the original poster's question (finally  )
A ported/vented (for simplicity's sake) Facing the rear of the car will GENERALLY be one of the better ways to align the box. It allows for the reflected waves off the trunk to be closer to phase with the original wave already moving toward you. BUT THE TRUE SOLOUTION.
Build the ported box, and put it in your trunk. Move it around, face it different directions, angles, distances from the trunk etc, until you find the loudest location. Good sound is 10 percent product and 90 percent install.

I drove a civic coupe for 2 years, I know all about the woes of the trunk enabled. There aint shit all you can do about it besides maybe cut the rear deck out, or take the rear speakers out etc. It still wont equal up to a hatch or suv.

First of all, you two fight like a married couple, but at least I got some kind of answer out of you.:-D
Anyways, what are your thoughts of a bandpass box???

Fight? :dunno: Where?
I dont like bandpass. Of course I've never heard a bandpass built JUST for the sub, but they always just sounded terrible, and you cant never hear distortion until its too late.

Your Best Bet Is To Have A Big Ported Box And A Lot Of Power (a Class D Amp Would Be Better) And Without Having Your Seat Down And Having A Small Trunk You Really Have No Choice.

bandpass will be the loudest, but sound like fart above the tunig freq.
I am going to cut out the rear deck and build a ported dual box to point up into it. With the proper tools and patience you can keep it looking clean and give yourself +5db.

How far will cutting the rear deck, etc., dig into my pocket.

umm do you have a jigsaw? if so just go buy a bunch of fine metal bits last time I needed 3 so you may wanna get 4. I used a dremel to smooth the edges and fiberglassed new 5 1/4" speaker mounts but if you properly build the sub box to point up through there you can just build speaker mounts off of the box.
Check out this guys profile, he did what I'm doin to, it look s100% pimpish.

If all you're worried about is being "loud"...go with a vented enclosure. If you actually care about also sounding good, then a sealed box is the way to go. Vented boxes are tuned to a frequency specifically for the subs you're putting in them, therefore it's going to sound awesome at the one frequency....but more sloppy at all other frequencies. A sealed box will play more cleanly through a much wider range of frequencies and provides the best sound quality. Regardless, L7's require a ton of airspace in either application...although sealed would be the lesser of the two. If trunk space is an issue for you, it might be a better idea to go with a single L7 instead of both. A single L7 in the required airspace would actually sound better than 2 in a smaller box.
