View Full Version : What Subs are Comparable to 12" JL W0s or W3s

I've only owned two sets of subs in my life - JBL 12" Loud and Clears, and most recently 12" JL Audio W0s. Between the two sets, I prefer the W0s.
With that said, the surround on both of my W0s has recently deteriorated, and I've been looking for a new pair. However, because JL Audio no longer produces W0s, it has become increasingly difficult to find new ones. Since I've had no interest in the car audio scene for the last three years, I'm unaware of subs (of the new makes/models) are comparable to W0s, or even W3s (svc).
Momentarily, I'm using a Kenwood 2 channel 600w amp to power the blown W0s (I have it bridged - so, two ohms of resistance) and would like to continue using this amp for whatever subs I purchase to replace the W0s.
My question is what subs (of the new makes/models) are comparable in clarity, "loudness," and quality to JL W0s or JL W3s (svc - not dvc)?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Well, the RE Audio re series has been recommended twice (once on another site).
I was hoping there was a sub I could buy locally that was comparable, though. Perhaps I will have to keep searching.

Chad (the owher of ascendant) is waiting on his last shipment of subs that are going to have XBL2 motors in them. My name is on an Avalanche 15. So its not in my car yet, but my buddy has the same sub off a Directed 600 watt amp, in a maxima. He folded the back seat down (and even though he has his amp rack blocking the pass-through) he hit a 139.3. So with that amp rack moved hed hit 140. Not bad for 600 watts, its ported at 35 hz and sounds damn good.

really? I would have expected more output from that sub. I've hear of single 16Ov.2s hitting mid 140s in ported boxes with around 1k watts. maybe more power will yield a higher spl number.

that was on 600 watts in a trunk car, doubling that power (what im doing) will be much better. Ov2's have shitty low end, and eD are some shady ass mofos. Good amps, because theyre mainly old Kicker amps, but still shady people.

ya, a lot of people have mixed opinions on ED, but I haven't had any problems so far with them. They defenitely have one of the best customer service in the industry, just try giving Image Dynamics or RE a call, then call up ED. completely different.

+1 some people have problems some dont. All I know is Ive read enough first hand horror stories to tarnish their name forever in my book.
I've read that with EVERY brand. I cant think of one that doesnt have a horror story.

It's like how I hate Image Dynamics because it took them 2 months to recone my 12" IDMAX, and they didn't call me once, charged me 95 dollars, and sent me back the wrong ohm configuration.
