What are the thoughts of fellow drifters on a high performance NA drift car. Of course it would be cheaper and easier to just get an SR20. But i am just wondering ur thoughts on the idea.

mattback's old KA powered wolverine car rocked hard, keeping up with and pushing SR powered cars. Hachi Bill's car was KA powered until recently, and that car performed with the best as well.

Get an intake, header, exhaust, and ROM tune, and you'll have plenty of power for entry level drifting. Also, don't discount the true cost of an SR20DET.... I mean $R20DET.

You don't need a turbo to drift. [/thread]

Ive just ordered a RWD sr20de. I'll let you know how it works.

Talk to the SER guys, they get upward of 200rwhp out of theyre -de's for decent price. either that or they cheat and throw on a gtir turbo/manifold/injectors with a rom tune and run about 300hp on stock internals. And that is cheaper than getting a det

Did he do good or something?

the sr20de is a great motor, but not very powerful.
the only real advantages to swapping that motor in, are more reliability than the ka, and a much smoother motor.
and its very easy to turbo them with someone elses throw away parts.

my point was that he had an NA car and he drifted on DDAY.. so you don't have to have a an SR20deT to drift

i dont really get this thread.

you dont NEED a turbo to drift, and you dont NEED alot of othjer stuff besides a car, a steering wheel, and a driver.
everything else just makes it easier, more predictable, safer and more fun.

i would much rather have the control of an NA rather than a turbo. when you're revving around 5k 6k and you let off the gas, when you mash the gas again, you know exactly how much power will be applied to the wheels.

in a turbo, all the power is lost when you let off the gas. when you mash the gas again, the power isn't instantly there, boost needs to be built up again.

NA's are potent and have a much more stable powerband.

you dont really understand what youre talking about.
if n/a was best, then 95% of the top drifters would run n/a instead.
depending on turbo size, and other factors, the drop off is barely noticeable.

when you've driven a turbo all your life and you first jump into an NA, it's a comletely different feel.

i don't know how it applies to drifting, but when it comes to control over the power of the motor, i'm right.

**edit** i never said NA's were the best, just that i would rather have one :whoa:

Agreed, I run a single cam KA because I can't afford a better motor (and I like the SOHC) and I can hang with SR cars all day. Don't think that the motor makes all that much of a difference. Well...when you get up in high third gear you start seeing a difference ;-(

nice posts keep em comin. say if i were gonna build my ka around NA (motor blew up). wat is the easiest/cheapest way to get the high comp. KA.
i heard rumors of using the SOHC block with a DOHC head???true or false/torque vs HP.......who makes decent cams (specific lift/brand)......and upgrades any where from minor to extreme.
