View Full Version : Are BOVs adjustable?

I currently have a Tial.

It works great but produces no sound.

In another thread it was mentioned that I could adjust the BOV.

What's the deal on this?

Should I shut-up about the BOV and get over the fact that I have never once heard it make a sound?

No sound is a bad thing?

No sound is a bad thing?

Please forgive my lack of knowledge with this topic...

But why would sound be a "bad thing" with respect to a BOV?

I have heard my buddies frequently and he does not have issues.

I am just a little envious... His sounds very cool and I have never heard mine before.

no sound means not enough boost crank it up

not enough boost? how many psi were you pushing cecil. 7psi + should be MORE than enough to cause it to open. If it isnt opening you are creating compressor surge which = not good usually. Cecil, is your BOV open venting into the air or is it recirculated to the intake tract? If its recirculated you may not hear it? :dunno:

Your bov is non-adjustable and is not known for making great noise @ 7 psi but should make some noise when you open it up all the way and just push in the clutch right?
When I open up my setup and shift @ 8,500 rpm even with 25 psi and hks bov no air release sound because I go right back into powerband the next gear so their is no need to blow out in my case which may be similar for your setup on your bike because you shift at like 13,000 rpms and in the next gear I am sure you are in a full boost level rpm range once you make the quick shift maybe why you dont hear your bov.

What type of BOV are you using?

How much boost are you running?

My Tial at 15psi doesn't make a sound... :dunno:

The tial should make some sort of noise at 15psi

Shit it should make noise at 6 also, either way you should be able to hear some air coming out. That is the purpose of the BOV to vent out the air trapped in your charge pipes after the throtle closes, if it is not doing it, you might as well not have a BOV, because it is not working. If it is possible for you try to borrow another one to see if it works. What car is this on?

there you go... that tial...

look at the vents that go all the way around the 50.5mm valve... there isnt a way to run this valve any other way but to vent it...

p.s. yes i was bored...

the tial at low boost makes a girly sneeze sound. you may have a really stiff spring in it. make sure you have a 7psi spring in it and that you are pulling strong enough vaccum on the signal hose during idle.

as long as your compressor doesnt surge, youre fine.
