Default Supercharger Selection for G Wagon

Ok,

Need some opinions, this seems like a topic that *might* not turn into a flamefest... but you never know.

I was going to put twin turbos on my sport utlity vehicle but I have been advised against and I dont know too much about belt driven superchargers...

So I would like some opinions on Roots vs Screw vs Centrifugal Superchargers... Any brand recomendations would be apreciated as well.

Only a few people make kits for the G Wagon and they are all over priced and under powered so I am going to put one together from scratch. So no kit....

I need to pick a good head unit and hooking it up from there should not be too hard is a straight forward engine with a decent amount of room. It has the AMG package to the pistons are already upgraded and the engine should be able to handle additional power.

It weighs 5600 lbs, has like 350 HP now. Kleeman makes a S/C for it but its like 20 grand and I think i can do better cheaper on my own. They push up to like 550 HP. I need lots of torque. I think it could be a good 1/8 mile warrior anything further than that and the areodynamics will kill me. its AWD which should help too.

I want to build the worlds fastest toaster on wheels! Any input is apreciated

Thanks,

Robert

The Kleeman guys sell an ECU upgrade for $1000 to go with their blower so I am hoping to make it work with mine with minor tuning, we'll see I am checking that out as well.

The easiest route might be trading it in and getting your hands on one of the 05 G55 AMGs. It's the last year and they went all out. They put the 469 hp s/c 5.4 from the E55/etc-55 in it, and there is good amount of aftermarket stuff for it. With the price of entry at 20k for a kit for the earlier car, you're probably better off getting the 05 and modding from there. I'm sure you could get 550 to the wheels with the 05 for far less than 20k.

If you want to stick with what you've got, there's no reason not to go for a custom turbo setup over a supercharger. Just find a good shop to do the fabrication and tuning, and consider going standalone depending on the tunability available through a chip. The power you get out of it will all depend on how strong the engine is from the factory, because by the time you reach the level of having to build an engine to take the abuse, you'd also probably be better off with the 05. The hard part is finding the limits without breaking stuff- doing something this unique means having no community to fall back on for information and support.

Here's the edmunds.com photo page on the 05 G55 AMG. The older ones look just about the same, but they're working with an NA v8 putting out 350 hp instead of the s/c v8.
