well, i dunno why i had forgotten about it before, but using an LT1intake.com intake, you can use an old style points setup, not the best, but MUCH cheaper and timely than the optispark. only thing i dont know right now is if there is a provision in the block for the gear and everything of the distributor, and i would probably have to use a gen 1 sbc cam i think...anyone have any definitive answer?

yes Kenny it can be done I believe I had the info on CamaroZ-28.com, yes early cam and if I remember I believe MSD or Mallory had a crab style cap with wires coming out of sides instead of top for clearance. I wouldn't use points though, go to a magnetic type maybe Accel or Mallory. Almost went that way but didnt want to cut my cowl area on my car.

the block does take a distributor, the LT-1 has a the same oil pump/cam gear etc that a traditional SBC does. you would need the appropriate intake(carbed) to run a d-cap.
