that would benefit BIG TIME with some good tuning. big cam bro. dont know who lied to you and said that was a smaller camshaft lol.

yea, i got the comp cam...i have no clue what the specs are on it, the papers are at my mechanics house still.
one small problem tho...at a stop light/park idle, it seems like its gonna stall out feeling, and...fucking oil pressure is wayyyy too low...almost at that red line, but as soon as i hit the gas...its at half way and stays there pretty much while driving. weird shit.

yeah weird. Watch it and be careful.

you need tuning... a vaccum sucking cam like that needs to have the computer tuned to match for added air and fuel and to correct your idle... what rpm does your car idle at? that could be affecting oil pressure if your idle is too low

What is the full list of stuff you had done to the car? What aftermarket parts did you put in other than the cam? Any valvetrain work- 1.6rr's, springs?
Hmm, that actually leads me to a question for the lt1 guys here- can you run a cc305 with 1.5rr's and stock springs without trouble? I did a search on camaroz28.com and it seems like you can but I found no definite answer.

would not recommend stock springs... im sure you could but why risk it? the 305 is a much bigger cam than stock and it will put more stress on the stock springs... an easy fix if the lt4 valve springs.. they are cheap
the valvetrain isnt something to cheap-ass your way through, a lotta bad shit can happen. even with a small cam you should upgrade as much as you can... the stock lifters will take a beating, and i havent found a good reliable upgrade, stick with a comp stock replacement or just keep your stock ones, but with springs stronger is better... same with pushrods, cmon, some nice comp 987 double springs are like 75 bucks and the hardened pushrods are maybe 100.. thats more than enough
you dont have to pull the heads to replace valve springs, use a magnet to hold your valves out of the cylinder heads, or just turn the engine to TDC at the cylinder which valve springs you are replacing so the valves dont fall in.

Id replace your oil pressure sending unit first. if it still reads low id be worried

oil sending unit is new, oil pump is new, pressure is only low at a stoplight idle after its been warmed up for a while. while driving its almost perfection all the way around.

its not an oil pressure issue. its idle surge. when your rpms drop due to your computer overcompensating air and fuel trying to keep up with that radical cam your pressure drops. it happens any time your rpms drop that low. like others said (and i said) you need tuning bad now.
putting in cheap springs is one sure way of floating the valves and cooking the motor. no doubt.

That should be pretty tuff for street driving. I would've gone higher on the duration :)

i strongly suggest you upgrade at least your springs now... that cam has too much lift for stock springs they just wont take it... do not wait til you do your heads or you will be sorry... cmon you dont even have to take the intake manifold off to do it.. go to advacned auto parts and get a valvespring compressor, get one of those telescopic magnets, stick the magnet to the valve, compress the spring and take it off... put the new one on, put the retainers and all that shit in and decompress.. do that for all 16.. better than floating a valve

or you can pay scott to do it

What's wrong with floating valves? I float valves in my 350 all the time. It's like a soft rev limiter :)

yea, im just waiting for something to break (knock on wood). ive been running the cc305 for just over a year on scock heads/valvesprings/rockers/pushrods). i keep on putting it off until i pull the heads. had to get tuning to bump up the idle though. now it idles perfect. thinking about going to the cc306 when i pull the heads, but i like the sound of the cc305.
ps...scott, you wanna help me do the springs for now till i pull the heads?...and 1.6 rr's:)

ps...scott, you wanna help me do the springs for now till i pull the heads?...and 1.6 rr's:)sure.... look on ebay for comp 987 they are 75 bucks plus like 7 bucks shipping... good springs brand new.. ill help you, also get stock length (7.2") chromoly hardened pushrods, a nice set of guide plates and NSA 1.6 roller rockers... other random stuff you will need is retainers, valve stem locks... bla bla bla.. probably only take a few hours tops
quite honestly if you are going to do the 1.6 rockers wait until you have the heads off... you are gonna see some much better gains from that mod once you have a nice 3 or 4 angle valve job and you get the spring seats and stuff all lined up.. just my .02... a good 3 angle valve job on stock 1.5 ratio rockers, stock valves and stock springs can net you anywhere from 2-4 hp per cylinder.. the machine work is where the power is picked up not in the 1.6 rockers.. yeah you will get a bit more lift but what good is that lift is the valves arent closing at top quality? how long til your planning on taking the heads off?

yea i noticed that i have to give it another 1-200 rpms when sitting at an idle and then it purrs. im gonna have that done tomorrow, along with my change to synthetic oil too.
formula69
04-20-2005, 12:44 AM
why change to synthetic oil? all its good for is engines that get taken apart and reassembled a lot... i run regular 10w 30 or 40 and have for a long time..
Tackleberry
04-20-2005, 12:49 AM
couldnt hurt....may as well do it. 2.59 for regular high mielage oil, or 3.18 for the synthetic...it cost me 25 bucks with tax to get the oil, where before it was about 20 bucks...its worth the 5 bucks
gator
04-20-2005, 11:11 AM
synthetic oil will actualy drop your oil pressure due to its viscosity
Tackleberry
04-20-2005, 11:45 AM
i thought it was supposed to raise it
Half Fast
04-20-2005, 12:48 PM
Not all synthetics are the same.
If you use Mobil 1 5-30 you will probably have a slight drop in oil pressure due to it's viscosity.
If you can find it, I'd reccomend the Mobil 1 0-40, I've switched my LT1 to this and now have slightly higher hot oil pressure.
Your problem is most likely related to your idle. You need a tune to get your idle right and to make sure that your mixture is correct and you aren't washing down the cylinder walls with unburnt fuel.

probably not for a little while...unless i can find a set of used lt1 heads, then i will get it done a lot faster, but i havent found any for like $100 yet:)
