Hey Guys I Got A 96 Town And Country 3.8 6 Cyl With 106,000. About A Month Ago I Flushed The Tranny. A Couple Days Ago I Started Feeling A Small Vibration When 3rd Geard Shifed. Yesterday My Wife Was Heading To Work And The 3rd Slipped And Did Not Engaged At All. Just Wondering If The Gears And Clutches And Seals Are Done Or Maybe The Torque Converter? Please Advice

We had seen some problems after flushing tranys out. Recently our dealership switched over to Wynn's products and they have a awesome transmission flush service, and we havent really had a problem since. It's possible with the amount of miles and if its never been rebuilt it may need an overhaul, those 604's are not the most dependable transaxle on the market. Another thing is that those units need the correct fluid or you'll get some slippage. ATF+3 was used then, it wouldnt hurt to try the atf+4 thats available now.

1. never flush a tranny unless you have changed the filter first, this seems to be a very common problem with shops that don't do tranny work , the tranny computer is also known for failure on them, if fluid smells burnt than most likely its on its way out, also if too much friction additive is used it will cause slippage and tranny overheating, the friction additive converts Dextron 3 to Dextron 4 which helps soften shifts and prevents torque converter chatter.(some shops use posi differential additive which is same as the tranny additive but less expensive ;-) )

not much exp with those tranny but filter and the control module would be my suspects.
I have a friend who had a 96 stratus and it started slipping like hell...if I recall it was rebuilt and still slipped. then some other place told him it was the control module for the tranny.....he never got it fixed, just chickened out and traded it in.

around a $1K is what i charge for a complete overhaul(drop it off and pick it up 7 to 10 days later) if you take it to a shop make sure its someone you trust or you might get charged more than the estimate was. wish you were closer i could drive it and see what's going on with it.

the GSX is running great, have some bearing noise in tranny(3rd gear) not a big deal, otherwise getting upgrades every weekend :)
