View Full Version : First race with a newer cobra

I thought at first that it was not supercharged since I did not hear any winding or anything. We're just cruisin around next to each other when we get to a certain area where there's a small bridge and after jumping it at him a few times he finally decides to race. Of course, we are now just getting on to this short bridge and he decides to jump it and then I hear him down shift. It was probably around 50 or so mph and I was in 4th gear at 3,000 rpms. I was running 8 psi without methanol/higher boost and should have dropped her down into 3rd gear but decided that since this cobra was most likely a stock 01 or 02 non supercharged, I'll just leave it in 4th gear at 3,000 rpms. No sooner from when he dropped it down to get ready to race I can finally see through his tinted windows and see a dual gauge pillar mount setup just like mine. Now I start thinking....hmm I wonder if it is in fact an 03/04 cobra. So, anyways I give him the move and he nails it and puts almost a car on me. I'm still at 3,000 rpms but nail it anyways. By the time I reached 5,500 rpms he was several cars behind me and I just stopped and slowed back down and so did he. He kept going and I busted a U-turn to see what else was around. I drove around to pretty much all of the well known "spots" and most were infested with the policia. Spent a few hours of trying to find some races and only managed to get one.
I'll have the intercooler fully installed during this week so it'll be ready by the weekend and I'll be able to run even more boost. 11 psi is already SICK but I want to run her at 14 psi. With an intercooler and methanol I should be able to achieve this with no problem.
corey r.

I just got back from lunch and after driving it a few minutes ago I'll have to say that 3,000 rpms was closer to 60mph and not 50 mph but it wouldn't of mattered and I wasn't exactly staring at my speedometer so around 60mph is more accurate. Thanks guys.

you still running stock internals?
if so, better save some cash up if your planning on 14psi on that turbo.

Bottom end is completely forged with blower "friendly" pistons. Valvetrain is stock though.
Slowmaro joke was cute...
Tonight I will be racing my buddy's 2005 Yamaha R1 which from the factory runs 10.3-10.4's in the 1/4 mile. I will have the boost set at 11psi until I get the intercooler fully installed this week. We will be doing a 50mph roll due to my stock turd rear tires. After I install the intercooler I will run him again if I lose this time, and there's a good chance I will against an R1.

why not just do an air/water intercooler in the "trunk" ? thats what i wanted to do with an STS kit. like a 55gal fishtank and a big flow bilge pump for the IC

Well I was waiting for a buddy of mine to get home because he hasn't driven in my car yet and is dieing to. Since he lives close to my buddy with the R1 I was gonna let him film the race. It's almost 10pm and the "camera" man still isn't home and he should have been hours ago. They both live near a very good spot to race with very little traffic at this time of night. So I guess it will have to wait until tomorrow night. I'll keep ya posted.

the 03 cobra has some notable differences, tailoghts dont ahve a yellow amber, smooth to body spoiler, different bumper clip, color mirros (i think thats different)...they only whine when you get on them and some are easier to tell than others, they do not stand out as much as a Lightning does at least I dont think so
