I bought a '97 Saturn SC2 about 8 months ago... Since the beginning of my time with this car the keyless entry hasnt worked right. However the remote trunk release has worked fine and still does. I did the easiest thing and switched the battery out, but that has made no difference. If I HOLD the lock button down on the remote, eventually the alarm will set and I will hear the doors lock. However getting them unlocked is hell and I will literally have to press the unlock button multiple times and hold it down and then it will unlock. Needless to say I dont use the keyless entry, but would like to. Any ideas of a possible solution to this or know anywhere that would take a look at it for a reasonable price? Thanks in advance for the replies. :)

It's been a while since I've messed with an alarm on a Saturn, but I will tell you one fatal mistake that I made a few years back. If you decide to replace it, you can tap into the wires that go to the existing alarm (which is mounted under the back seat), but DO NOT remove the alarm. I did that and the car does not start. Saturn made it an active part of the ignition system.

From the sounds of it though, you may be having problems with the remote itself. Obviously, the antenna on the remote and alarm is working ok since the trunk release is fine, and the locks do work (part-time). You can try calling in the numbers on the back and ordering a new one, or using some contact spray and a light brush on the contacts inside.

only one remote? when you say the keyless entry isnt working...you are also talking about the security portion of it as well right? you cant get it to arm (beep) easily, right? or does it beep when you press the buttons and not lock/unlock?

Thanks guys for the replies.

Plan Z: Yes I only have one remote and yes the security portion doesnt work either. I can sometimes get the alarm to set if I hold the button down firm, but getting it to turn off is almost impossible. When the alarm does set though the power locks lock and when I can get it to turn off the locks unlock without a problem.
