What seatbelt is really needed for the track?

I was wondering if you can get by with a lap belt or does the seat belt(or 5 point harness) have to cross your chest?

depends on the speeds, and the track. If you get to a point where you need to put a 6pt roll bar in, then you should get a 5 pt harness for the track.

there is a reason why lap belts no longer come in cars. they arent that safe. Get a regular seat belt at the very least. Your safety should seriously be #1
