I have a rockford fosgate 12" and an amp and this is my first time settin' up a system, one of my friends said i really need 4 gauge wire to make it sound good, so i looked around and all i could find was kits with 8 gauge wire kits. Rockford fosgate recommend 8 gauge, what do you guys think?
For those who don't like to read: 4 or 8 gauge wire?

alot of rockford amps take 8 gauge, look at what size the hole is for the power wire in the amp. if rockford suggest 8 guage then run 8.

What size amp?
it all depends on the wattage.

Run 8 gauge.
Using wattage to judge will work fine most of the time, but keep in mind there are shitty amps out there that claim 2000 watts and only need 4 gauge. It really depends on the current draw of the amp, which you would tell by the fuses on the side of the amp. But for your purposes, wattage will probably work fine.

I agree, 8 guage should work fine....go with the 4 gauge if you plan on upgrading to a larger amp sometime down the road.

I got a kit at wal-mart that said it can support up to 1440 watts so i think i should be good, also what type of screws should i use to put the sub into the box?
I use grabber brand wood screws. as long as the head doesnt pop thru the holes.. a lot of people like to use the "domed" variety because it's flat bottom gives a guaranteed pessure

wow an 8 gauge kit that hold up to 1440 watts wow is all i have to say.
you did right by going with the 8 gauge i would on run 4 gauge if i was splitting to another amp like a 4 chan.

i agree on power and ground wire. spk wire and rca do make a difference.
the monster cable 201's make a difference the XLN PRO's dont make that big of a difference for the price, unless your running qsd216. (and right now there rockford speakers, so mb quart sucks now.) sorry i started to rant

why does MB suck now? Didnt they use to make good comp sets?

Because MB Quart isn't even made in germany anymore. They've fallen victim to the commercialism bug.

IMHO expensive cables just line the pockets of the saleman.

Agreed. I sell low voltage products for a living. Cable is cable. RCA's are RCA's.. When you buy Monster cable, you buy the name, and that's it. I can show you 10 equivalents that actually outperform (on paper) the Monster cable product's electrical characteristics. Are there shitty products out there? Yes.. but there is good marketing out there and those that buy into the expensive shit are just buying into the marketing game.

yup
second the monstercables i was talking about only cost $40 retail for a 2 channel and $60 for a 4 channel and you can hear the difference. i used to sell at sound advice, i dont anymore so its not like im pushing one product like a salesman would. I just belive its one of the best cables out there.

I use to think rca's were rca's and speaker wire was speaker wire until I actually compared premium cables to budget cables....there's definetly an audible difference to the trained ear. 60% of the consumers out there can't tell the difference between some Pyle subs and some IDMax's though anyways. Power wire on the other hand depends nothing more than on strand count for conductivity and oxygen free insulation for durability. I personally would never shell out the extra money for top of the line wiring though because it's just not worth it to me unless I was competing.
