Im about to install a red top battery into my new explorer this weekend. Do I need to know anything before I install this. I dont want to blow my new truck up or set it a blaze. Thanks

Dont touch positive to negative on your battery lol. Other than that shouldnt take you more than 5 mins.

well KIRK i read in another post someone saying to get it installed professionally because it could catch fire or some bs
Tim, Im going to try red top this time for 2 reasons
1) cheaper
2)I read many many posts that red should be primary and IF NEEDED, run a second yellow in the rear. Oh yeah and its cheaper

I've always wondered this, what would cause you to need a 2nd battery? I mean after the car is started you are running off the alternator really right? I mean the battery holds the power but the alternator is what keeps everything going so why the second battery? Doesn't that just make the alternator split the power it makes and work harder?

Red tops have more cranking power...better choice for a primary battery. It's a common misbelief that yellow tops are better for some reason...all you have to do is compare the specs though.

Its mainly for shows/running the system with the car off. Yellow tops are made to be fully drained and charged again which makes they good for back up batterys. I had one as my primary on my old truck and my only complaint was a very slight dim in the headlights when the bass hit full blast at nite. Other than that It was great. I just cant see spending another $170 for one when I never play my system with the car off.
