i get alot of engine noise comming out of my speakers while my car is running. it makes a a frequwncy noise that gets higher and lower with my rpms (verry anoying especially with a honda). anyone know what causes this or how i could get rid of it? could it be an issue of not having enough power for everything?

its said that RCA's ran to close to the power wire will make this noise, although mine are ran on opposite sides of the car and i still get it :dunno: im sure tbspyder, bumpinexpo or 97ex will have an answere

I'd first check your rca's, then the ground on both your deck and your amp. If not, then it's probably directly related to the amp or deck. You could try a filter, but they greatly reduce the output. What kind of stuff do you have?

Running power and RCAs together causing noise is a myth. Reground stuff to bare metal, if theres any paint where you grounded scrape it all off, or you can try getting better quality RCA cables. +1 on what do you have.

on a scale of 1 to 10, i'd say you've got a grounding issue.

power and rcas together is a myth in my eyes too, re: yellowstang has it and his are on opposide sides. ALTHO, shitty rcas can get noise introduced in them, so its just another thing to check. My money is on grounding issues. I just got engine whine 2 weeks ago :( I dont know wtf happened, but its just another excuse to revamp my setup.

are fosgate rca's shitty? if so what are good ones?

I have stinger expert series. Shielded is one of the better ways to go, but dont buy into directional.

I'd say it's either your deck or amp. I've had situations where I've swapped the deck out and all background noise was eliminated, same with amps. Considering your amp is the lowest end piece of equipment in your system.....you might want to start with that.

And I have seen instinces where power wire and rca's/speaker wires ran together have induced noise. All depends on the kind of wire you're running though and amount of power/guage of wire. It's rare, but it's possible.

when i had both of my 4 gauge wires and my rca's ran together. It made a real bad ticking noise and sounded like SHIT. the guys at circuit city said it was spark plug tick? so i moved the rca's over and it cleared it up. so i have been dealing with the whine. i have the alpine deck, mtx amp, momo speakers and type r subs, i guess the rca's would be my problems?

im gonna try disconecting the power wire to my amp n see if the components still make the noise

Not necessarily.

Try:

Making sure your RCA's and Power are not run on the same side...sometimes you can get away with this but not always
Regrounding your amps...make sure you have a good ground
Check your radio ground...Make sure it is also grounded properly

If you check both of those and you still have a problem then you need to buy a " Ground Loop Isolator". It goes for like $10 - $15 bucks and an audio shop. It connects between your rca cables and your amp.

Ive got wal mart wires, they are the shit

Check your ground

Then check your amp...Lazar blows. The only decent one is Vibes which are the same amps as the JBL's

it was the rca,s comming frome my ps2 into my aux input. unpluged them n it went away. anyone know if sony made a better wire harness with some better rca,s?

You could just insert a GNI ( Ground Noise Isolator between your PS2 and your AUX input.

i think that stands for 200 watts:lol: seriously though...yes cheaper amps can introduce noise problems more often. after you make sure your grouds are good, try running another rca outside of the car just to test it... if you still got noise, most likely the amp. very slim chance it would be rca output off the deck. and, i would never put a ground loop isolator/noise filter in my car to get rid of engine noise (at least on main rca's to the amps). i would get a new amp before i did that. just my .02

it haD nothing to do with the amp or the wireing or the grounds, it was the shitty rca's sony uses in the wire harness for the ps2. unhooked it and the noise went away. the lanzar amp pushes alot of poewer but the sq is crap. im still looking for a new/used amp let me know if anyones got a decient one for cheep

That doesn't necessarily mean it's the ps2 rca's. It could also be noise induced from your power converter into the ps2.

integralsgreen

well how do i fix that?

integralsgreen
04-08-2005, 11:46 AM
hold up it cant be the power inverter because it made the noise with no power going to the ps2 or power inverter. olny thing it can be is the rca's pickin up noise from somthing.

What you could try is running whats called a trace ground. Where you run a new ground wire (16 gauge would be fine) from your deck all the way back to your trunk and ground it with the ground for your 4-ch amp. If there is even a 1 volt difference in grounds, you will get engine noise. Make sure the ground for your amp is screwed directly to body metal (ie. trunk floor or floor pan under rear seat, etc.) with the paint scraped away.

I have two amps and an EQ (with inline power filters on the power wires) all running off the factory head unit and I have no engine noise.
