Well I decided to take my Pioneer HU and put it in my GF's MX6. Now I wire it up (sooooo simple when you aren't using the internal amp) and slide it in. But wait, the HU doesn't fit all the way in. I took it out and made sure all the wires went down so they weren't in the way and it went in farther. But theres like a metal bar back there thats pretty thick so it won't go back any further. I managed to get it so it looks pretty good, but it just bothers me. I thought all 1DINs are the same. She had an old shitty sony xplode in there before. Is this common? I never looked at HU dimensions farther than DIN size. Guess I need to start to.

Ive had the problem in some GM cars where theres a bracket or something back there that needs to be snapped out to fit an aftermarket in there, but I cant recall an MX6, its not too common. All DIN size dimensions are basically the same, its not something you need to worry about, but you probably answered your own question above...an old shitty sony xplod.

Well actually the old shitty xplode fit perfect, but my Pioneer won't :(

does the metal bar stretch all way accross?
or is it just on one side and if so, If you unplugged the wires and just slide it in does it fit all the way in? could have just been the harness is a little beefier and keeping it from going all the way in? have you actually compared the two HUs to make sure one was deeper then the other?

I've had that problem before on an beat ass 80's dodge daytona. It wasnt a metal bar but a bunch of other shit. I belive sony has usually smaller depth.

On my blazer, I dremeled the everliving shit out of the plastic behind the HU. There was acres of useless bracketry so I cut it all out.

Its a metal bar in the center of the where the HU goes. It looks to be some sort of dash support and is pretty beefy. As for the Sony HUs being smaller; thats probably because they leave shit out which is why they suck so bad. Her system sounds 1000x better with my Pioneer than with the shitty ass sony.

of course the system will sound better its a sony. nothing from there car audio line ever sounds good. nuff said. as for your problem, i would look at 2 things see if they make a spacer (dask kit) like what they use in some GM cars or cut.

my old car was just like that, i bent the metal back as far as i could and attatched it to the rear of the HU, i bent it as far back so the HU cud fit and look like it was meant to be there, the stock HU was an inch or so shorter
