I have a 95 camaro lt1 ( so I have been told ) I am sure it is from a camaro because of the location of the accessory pulleys, but I am not sure of the year. Is there any way to tell what year it is? any noticeable things on the engine that would tell me what year? is it possible it's a 97? ( don't know if they even made the lt1 in 97).

I am wondering because no matter what motor mounts I use ( camaro, elcamino, or any combination) it's not fitting down onto the frame.

thanks for the help

There is a way u can tell, Part of the number stamped on block is different for each year. I dont know which is which, but there mounting spots are the same. Perhaps you need to move the mounts on the frame? (like if you were to switch a V6 to a V8 you have to move the mounts over, Usually factory drills the extra holes).

I am helping him with this swap and we tried every possible combination of mount ( with rubber inserts ) and brackets possible. We had the frame mounts off and tried camaro brackets and mounts, engine sits way to high and no bolt holes line up: tried v8 brackets and mounts for an 87 elcamino ( supposed to be the same as 80 elcamino v8's) and only one side would fit onto the holes the other side was too high: tried to flip mounts, rotate, put frame mount on engine and vice versa:

finally the only thing that would allow the motor to sit low enough and at least 2 mount holes in the frame to be used was by using the v8 mount and bracket on the passenger side and the stock 80 elcamino v6 bracket and mount. the v6 bracket had to be moved forward and a hole drilled to get it to bolt to the frame, while the mount ( from the v6 elky) is on the engine, and the v8 mount was on the frame only one hole had to be elongated a little, the v8 bracket had to be rotated upsid down since it uses a 3 bolt triangular patern and the camaro has it's triangle reverse from the other gm cars. but we did get it to line up after several hours.... but we did not have to beat the frame to make room for the ac compressor.

tomorrow the tranny and engine get dropped in for the final time, it was late by the time we did the final test fit for just the engine.

we were able to uncover some more numbers on the block that weren't visible before and according to the helm manual it codes out to a 95, maybe the 80 elky was a bastard year and doesn't fit the norm. thanks for the help.

Are you bolting the engine into the f-body cross member or not? I have pictures of how the engine mounts are setup and where they bolt in onto the f-body k-member, but if your not using it then they probably wont help you out...

Here's a picture of the block with the engine mounts bolted up and a picture of the f-body k-member with the engine mounts in place...

Camaro LT1's had alternator sitting on the passenger side valve cover, i believe Corvette LT1's had the accessory bracket on the opposite side with the alternator on the driver side.

93 lt1's, if you look at the intake the 2 fuel rails only connect to each other in the back. 94-97 LT1 fuel rails will connect both in the front and in the back of the rails. 93-95 lt1's will have a non vented optispark. 96-97's will have a vented optispark. This should help you get an idea of what year it is. I think the engine mounts are the same for all 93-97 LT1's...

this is going into an 80 elcamino (g body) using the stock elcamino cross member. the fuel rails meet in front and back, and it has a vented optispark, but the codes on the block show it being manufactured in august of 94 ( so it should be a 95 model).

vented opti 95-97
CAS on timing cover - 97
93 had a different fuel rail

but as you said, it sounds like everything says its a 95.

from what i understand though, the V8 el camino k-member setup should be a direct bolt on for an LT1

it's not!!!!!!! we dropped the motor in, checked distances, pulled it, changed mounts, tried again. today we finally got it bolted in, tranny included, using on the right side the stock v8 bracket and mount from an 80-87 elcamino, monte carlo, malibu, etc. and on the left side the stock v6 mount and bracket from the elcamino (1980). we did drill an extra hole on one side and elongate one on the other.

but! energy suspension does not make the urethane mounts for a v6 elcamino, only the v8's, well they make a mount that fits, but it is from the 95 camaro left side mount. they are the same dimensions but energy suspension doesn't list it on their products as being for a v6 elky. for no we have one side with a urethane mount and one without, I have to go to automotive engineering tomorrow and get the camaro one.

the only thing I can think of is that the 80 el camino is the bastard year for the elky line up, every car has one and this seems to be it.

thanks for the help
