View Full Version : Kumho V700's/Victorracer or New Azenis?

I'm currently running NT555r's all around on the brick and as I expected the sidewalls on the fronts can NOT hold up to autoX duty even if I max out the air pressure.
I'm looking to replace these with either the new Azenis($330ish shipped for the pair) but it looks like the Kumho V700+Victorracer are priced fairly close so those would be an option too in my price range.
275/40/17's
I'm tossing around almost 4k lbs so I'm assuming the tire with the strongest sidewall would be my best bet.
Thoughts?

Hmmm, after reading this about the V700's maybe this would be the better route since the outer shoulder really takes a beating......
As the tire's outer shoulder tread wears from hard cornering, the ECSTA V700's directional tread design and symmetric internal construction allows worn tires to be remounted "inside-out" on their wheels to prolong their life.
From what I hear, Ecsta v700 need to be shaved or they suck. Victoracers are good to go without shaving.

Victoracers will be a pita to drive on the street. They tend to tramline a lot. They will get hard with heat cycles too. I think you'd also have problems with them getting greasy at autox events on the Brick. I'm not saying the new azenis won't... it's hard to say on that one. I didn't have any heat issues with them, but I'm running the same size tires with half the weight.
The Kumho Ecsta MX might be a good choice as well. They do pretty well when they get hot. The sidewall isn't the stiffest around, but it's pretty solid (it's more progressive than anything else).
Another option (although a bit more $$$) might be the Toyo RA-1 competition radial. Stiff sidewalls and from what I've read, they'll take all the heat cycles you can throw at them.

RA-1's do seem to be about $100 more each....
MX's seem to run about the same price as the others.....the truck is driven about 2 days/month on average so I'm not concerned too much about the road manners.
I think I can rule out the Victorracers at this point though......
Between the MX's or new Azenis I'd think the falkens would be the route for me because treadwear isn't much of an issue.

they're both 200 treadwear tires.
Victoracers can be remounted inside out as well.
Heat cycles are still a concern.

From what I've heard about RA-1's, they may be more expensive, but you're likely to get twice the useful life out of them.

That's not going to make a difference on those tires. He's running drag radials and the sidewalls are about as supportive as a wet noodle. Plus they're really grippy. There's nothing but air pressure stopping the tire from rolling over.

I think I had the front set to -2-2.5ish when I had the alignment done. After I get some real tires I'll see what happens.

Why not get the Nitto 555 II?

Why not get the Nitto 555 II?
I saw those but I've never really heard of nor seen anyone running them to get any feedback on them. :dunno:

I too am tossing around 4K pounds and the VictorRacers have worked well for me. Heat cycling has not been a problem as the set I'm currently running are over a year old with many runs on them and they seem to stick better now then when new ..

im pretty sure victoracers are asymetrical.
although i might be wrong.

It doesn't matter. You can mount ANY tire inside out. The ONLY thing it has an effect on is wet traction, and that's not an issue with a race tire.
Nobody's had a tire with different sidewall construction, or different compounds inside to outside since the late 90s that I know of.

received my UPS delivery today........... figured these would be best with the amount of weight I have riding on these tires.. thanks for the input.....

thats gonna be a wierd feeling to drive, super sticky soft sidewall tires in the back with sticky stiff sidewall up front

Just an FYI, the tread pattern on the 615's causes an optical illusion from certain angles that makes it look like the tire has a massive flat spot on it. I've got the tires off the front of the car right now for the coilover install and happened to glance over at the wheel sitting on the ground and freaked out. After several minutes of investigation, I was satisfied that there was nothing wrong with the tire. I'll see if I can get a picture that makes it show up.

:( Those pics made me sad. My cat died at 3AM yesterday.
Good luck with the Azenis.
