View Full Version : I think I caught the audio bug

Man I have spent like 2 days straight looking online for new audio shit. I never thought I would buy any more comps after my current CDTs but now want louder and even clearer. Soo...I guess I'll look for opinions. Here are my plans:

6.5" comps in kick panels
6.5" mid range in all 4 doors(might go for 5x7s since I don't think I'll use them for midbass)
12" L7 in ported enclosure in back

Now I want to give the comps like 150rms and the midrange around 100. The L7 will get like 650rms. How does this sound?

Not sure on anything but I'm thinking all Boston acoustics for the speakers and probably some Infinity amps (I know some people think theres better out there but these are pretty well priced). So I am looking for a very loud/clear system that has some great bass with it (like everyone else). So any concerns so far? Oh and the HU is already the KVT-715DVD.

Why get Boston, a nice ass brand, and then skimp out and get cheap amps? Yes theyll sound okay but you can do better for around the same price. And youll probably have to experiment with the kicks and doors and what you want, a lot of ppl think the stage is too low with the speakers in the kicks, others swear by em.

So you're putting coaxials in the doors and then components in custom kickpanels?????

No idea really yet. Might just go with some midbass in the doors. I really want my system capable of being louder than it is right now. I mean it was loud when I first got it, and everyone I know thinks its loud and clear but I want louder and at least as clear.

Now that I've been thinking about it I am thinking of just going with some better comps and keeping them in the doors because I'm pretty afraid of someone crushing them in kicks. Then some nice coaxials that can handle some power in the rear doors.

So what do you think of these:

It says they handle 150rms but does that mean per side or total? Would these be an upgrade even? Or should I just go with some Diamonds?

I put my crystals in the kicks, I like the soundstage so far. But keep in mind 6.5's dont fit in q logic, so you will have to make the kicks, and please dont make them like the "how to's" show with a glob of carpet in the corner of the floor. Those look so terrible :(

More power doesn't necessarily mean "better". I personally would rather go with speakers that require minimal power to push.

POWER ACOUSTIC!!!!!!

you will thank me later...

I know that, but I want louder. AND at least as clear. So louder plus at least as clear equals better for me personally ;)

400watt rms total for my whole system... and it sounds clear as a whistle. :tard:

So does mine but I am getting greedy and want clean and loudER :D Right now I am pushing 700rms total. Looking to upgrade that to around 1200 soon though.

I think I figured it out. I'm thinking of putting my CDTs in the rear doors (all of them, tweeters in the stock speaker locations too) and then just getting something that will handle like 50rms more each up front.

BA's run silk domes don't they? I like the highs in my titanium ones I have so I think I'll need to at least get a metal tweeter to go with the CDTs I have.

But a more efficient speaker will be louder on the same wattage.

edit - Im on 800 wrms and I might go to 1000 soon if I see the right combination of amps.. but its all about tuning and install. My crystals are louder than my diamonds were because of the install.

So how can you compare efficiency?

from bcae1

'no':
This is the reference efficiency. It is usually expressed as xdB when driven by one watt and measured at a distance of one meter. Ex: 89dB/1w/1m.

Hm? Where does it show this info when looking at speakers?

Ok a reread it and think I understand. So is it the sensitivity? Thes reason I ask is look at these comps stats:

Yes sensitivity.
