How do you like the car as a whole?? Does it feel cheap?? What is your most annoying problems with the car ?? and What would you change about it ??(except the fact that its a neaon :P jfwy!) I am now in the market for yet another new car and I cant go non turbo!!!! :headbang: So, its either another WRX or Skittle. How is all the little shit?? I know the engine and turbo are bullet proof.

The only thing i wish my car had different was rear wheel drive and that is just cause i like RWD. Other than that the car is fukin awesome. It is very cheap to mod, fast as you want it to be, handle good but for under $500 can handle great.

BoB Wilson Dodge in Tampa has like 3 or 4(that is where i got mine). It is on florida just off 275. The cost for mods all depends on what you want to do. There are the Mopar stages that keep the daily driver happy along with more power or there is aftermarket turbos, that well..... can be as insane as you want. There has been a couple of SRT-4's with stock internals going 500+hp. www.agpturbo.com has some aftermarket cost and power out looks for the SRT-4 and www.mopar.com has some dyno's of the staged upgrades.
My car is almost stock motor wise that is and i have ran a best of 14.1 @ 96. Now i have my MM so i should be able to get under 13.

I love mine I can honestly say that It is a great car. At first i was skeptical about the fact that it was a neon. Let me tell u i drove a regular neon and everything about it is completely different. Engine, suspension, the handling. Some people say the interior is shitty. While it might be pretty close to the neon the saets are definelty high quality and alot nicer. I sat in the back ofa reg neon those cloth is like foam and gell it really does have nice interior. Plus it is color corridated. It is truely the best bang for your buck. I ahve had mine almost a year and have had NO problems to date. I have a 1000 watt sound system and the only that happened to me was the battery died. I got a cap and recharge the battery and was on my way. U could spend 26,000 on a WRX or you could use that extra6 grand and have over 400+ hp srt-4.
Turbo upgrades from AGP are only about 1,500 and u will be doing 12's to high 11's. The fast ones are at the mid 11's. You can do just about what ever u want this car. Mods are cheap... Great site called www.moperperformance.com. Look here for just standard upgrade prices then you can check out AGP turbos like the other posts said.
Mopar makes things really fun becuase they allow u to mod ur car and keep it under warranty! We all know this is a big plus. Stage 1 allows you to bypass the sensors so you can mod ur car all you want with throwing any sensors.
I love my car. Not to mention 7 year power trait warranty.!!
If you test drive it i guarentee that it will be the end....

I liked my SRT4, interior was cheap - but the seats are GREAT!
Everyone forgot to mention that the SRT4 lacks rear power windows! That was one thing that bugged me. But what do you expect for 22k? It does have the best bang for the buck - STOCK. Modding it is another story.. for example, I put $2k into my Cobra and I already have surpassed the 450whp I had in my SRT4 - and I put $11k into it. Oh, and my Cobra runs on pump gas, the SRT4 at 450whp was on race gas. If you want to go fast, it will cost you to do it right. The SRT4 is a great all around sport-compact. Has a stong bottom end, transmission and responds well to mods.
I got rid of mine for a couple of reasons, but mostly it was TRACTION. Roll racing is fun, but I like to go from a dig and with a high hp SRT4, you can forget about it.
Oh, and Srt4Viper - the MOPAR upgrades VOID your warranty.:deal:
Also, there is a lot more to upgrading the SRT4 then just spening $1500 for a turbo upgrade... You forget there is engine/fuel management, fuel upgrades, drivetrain upgrades, suspension upgrades, tires., etc.. Don't think you can buy an SRT4, drop $1500 in it and be in the 11's and have a daily driver that will last any reasonable amount of time - not gonna happen. :roll:

I dissagree with srt4vipers post because the second you mod or race your car (no matter what car company it is) you just lost your warrenty!!! You can get lucky and people have been in the past and get a good dealership that will warrenty they work, but let it be known from day one, you could be voided for moding the car! Same as Mazda, Honda, Mitsibishi, Ford, Chevy and all the rest!
Had mine since March 03. Hell I drove 500 miles to find one back then :)
Seats are big thumbs up!
Brakes are excellent stock, I did a road course with em and they never disappointed me once. I plan to get some Hawk pads, and brake lines to improve feel, but thats it.
Its highly recommended to at least lower the car in some form. Traction is an issue with higher HP, but there some VERY cheap fixes out there for that. Too many people jump on the bandwagon and buy all this extra crap for 'wheel hop' cure.
If you mod with NON MOPAR parts, be prepared to be in the boat that quickcivic was. Same boat Riven is in......
Want 350WHP? Bolt on and go....Stage IIIR.

The boat of modding your car with parts other than MOPAR parts and having other problems come up... Which are fairly conservative compared to AGP or PSI-FI's Kits, but VERY well tested. But If you want to play with the big boys and run consistant - mid to low 11's your going to have to get something other than MOPAR.
Once you get to a certain whp level you start to have other "problems" that come up..
Boost leaks, clutch/tranny problems, broken axles, vacuum leaks, idle problems.. it's inevitable. Your pushing a lot of the other parts on the car to their limit. You just have to expect it when your at the whp level that Riven is at and what I was at.
Also, the parts/kits out there for the SRT4 are fairly new and these companies that are releasing them are rushing them to the market before they have a chance to really be tested, just to get it in your hands before the "other guy" does. Let's face it the aftermarket for the SRT4 is blowin' up right now.. :-)

mine has 10k + miles and not a single prob.... (this is my 3rd neon 2 1st gens before)
the only dislike i have is "no cruise"... but outside of that no complaints !!!!!!!!
what else can you buy NEW for 20k and with MINOR mods run 13.6 -13.8's and still get 21mpg city and 27-28 highway ???
and buy minor mods i mean
drop in filter,shifter w/bushings/and motor mounts...

Oh and about your cobra lets not forget that you spent prob over 30k on it just to get the car in the first place, If it was new i dunno what they go for 38 something like that?. Its a supercharged V8 what do u expect. Less power?? The impression that I was under is that you void your warranty after STAGE 3 not any of the other stages. Also i was saying that you should spend that money instead of getting a WRX. Of course traction is always an issue with a front wheel drive car.
No cruise control does really suck if u drive on a trip but not too bad.
As far as no power windows in the rear. Well, i never ride in the back not an issue for me. I really like my car.
oh and i have about miles on it.

try 32,000 for a brand new 03 cobra and it was convertible also i think for 20,000 the srt-4 is the best car and for 30,000 the cobra is just my .02

My car stickered at $36k - got it for UNDER $30k the last week of 2004 - brand spankin' new.
Also, the SRT4 does not cost $20k anymore, MSRP is $21,195 now. My 04' SRT4 cost me $22,500 and that was without a sunroof or the kicker audio system.

Got mine for 20,000K flat NO sunroof which yes that does suck. Add the sunroof to the must lists becuase u dont want to add it afterwards it will leak.

OUCH !!!!!! when (early 04 ??) and where did you get it ?????
i got my 04 at the end of july and walked out the door @ $20,100.... viper style seats, no sunroof or kicker...

Yeah......thanx for everyones comments....how does the car feel when driving? Is it fairly comfortable?? Makes a lot of shitty noises?? Also, How bad is traction with a stage 1 or 2. I have heard that traction is non existent till you hit 3rd gear.
stage I, its ok on stock tires, 225 tires pretty much eliminates problems unless you try to launch at 6K. 1400RPM does it for this car.
Ride is fairly comfortable ( speaking of seats) once u learn how to 'use' the seats. My personal gripe is on the 6 hour road trips....after 4...it annoys me.

I agree that the SRT4 is the best $22K car ( bought mine ( 04' ) for $17.5K with 4600 miles on it :) ), but I ALSO agree that the cobra is best for $30K cars.
If I had the money, I would have got a cobra.
Gripes about the SRT4 ?? The biggest gripe I have is the DAMN TURNING RADUS !!! Huge bullet-proof tranny = poor turning radus...
The cruise control stuff dodge feeds us is crap, they claimed they couldn't fit cruise control into the engine-bay !!! But I guess they never seen a TT dodge stealth, which is 5 times as cramped and has cruise control...
The rear powerless windows was done purely for weight reduction I'm sure. You can buy a "power rear window" kit for $150, which means dodge could have bought them for $20 a peice... Honestly, I'm glad it doesn't have power rear windows, more switchs on the drivers door and more useless crap to break...
Paint on the car is a little weak too... I have a few chips from a 1400 mile trip to Tenn.
Brake dust is a little excessive...
Can't have a compalnt list without meantioning the weak ass motor mounts !! The Passenger side wish-bone bottoms out if I down shift hard enough...!
OK, really !!! These are all stupid little things !!! Its a great car !!! My best friend is a hardcore german car freak, and a GTi owner and he's even come to terms with the car. I took him and another person with me to 145mph, and he couldn't beleive how stable it felt ( neither could I ). The doors even shut like a well built car ( go open/shut a saturn door, and you'll see what I mean )!!
The power is great, the tranny shifts about 100% better than I expected ( me coming from the king of smooth shifting cars, honda ), the torque steer is minamal, the gas milage is.... a little worse than I expected, but I beat on the car, when I actully drive it ( It got 33.4mpg my first tank of gas going to Tenn. ). Handling is pretty dang good, but it needs lowered and maybe a sway-bar upgrade ( very cheap for the SRT4 ).
Mine ran 8.8@85mph with just a MBC. I ran 105-115mph for about 8 hours on the trip back from Tenn. ( total trip took 8 hours and 50 minutes from northern Tenn. ).
Mopar Stage2 with tuner toys is supposed to be at my house today or tomorrow.... Adjustablity, driveabilty, and reliabilty = $1400 shipped.
I may sell my turbo civic in a few months and take some of the money and buy the stage3 mopar coilovers !!! $1400, too !!! Magic mopar number !!

hey, I drive a 1st gen neon...they arent bad at all, in fact they won a lot of races when they first came out.....the SRT4 is a different beast though, much more time and tout thought put into it, I'm considering buying one as well, but in a few years when the prices come down, right now I'm happy with my current neon, only thing I dont like about the SRT4 and 2nd gen neons in general is it doesnt come in 2dr configuration

Most people aren't, but I'm about 500% sick of having a fast car for 10days, then having to fix modify something...
Stage2 with toys is low 13sec capable, and that's before intake, exhuast, DP, wires, wider tires, and a 50shot; bascilly I can live with a mid 12second car that runs mid 12's on pump gas and "hard sidewall tires" ( IE the G-force KDW, vs the soft sidewalled drag radials ).
Another thing is the Stage2 bezal looks so stock and clean, its hard for me to resist. The dail-a-boost also steps up the boost per gear, with just MBC I KILL THE TIRES, but with stock ECU controlling the boost ( not hitting 17psi in first or second ) I can get the car to hook-up pretty good.
I 100% agree that the SRT4 can go faster for cheaper !!! But reliablity is a huge deal to me, and I want to look about as stock as possible, while still being fast. I'm not looking to beat LS-1s with nitrous or anything... And if a SRT4 can run mid 12's from a stop, its more than likely going to be able to run with 11.9 cars from a roll....

And replace the tranny b/c it wouldn't hold stock power levels... And its $5K more...
A dude I work with has a WRX with 3''DP catless exhuast, clutch, AEM CAI, BOV, Tein suspen set-up. We run that same times, but I run 10mph faster ( he ran 8.8@75mph ), I ran 8.8@85mph. It think its pretty easy to guess who would have won in the 1/4mile, my car was stock except for a MBC set to 16-17psi and failing to 10psi or so..
Scary enough, I'm also more consistant...
The STi is a much better WRX, but still not worth $13K more than the SRT4..
Also wanted to meantion the SRT4 has a nice interoir IMO ( but that's all in the eye of the beholder ).

Sure, with a 3'' downpipe !! Lets put a 3'' DP on my car... Plus, its pretty well know the STG2 runs too rich...
I never said I was going to beat "XXXX", I just mean that I only wanna run 12.5/12.6 on street tires using STG2 with toys, DP/exhuast, CAI, and a 50 shot....
I'm going to try and make it to the track event ( I went last time, before I bought the SRT4 ), kinda pisses me off the 500 people would sign up to race, but only 50show up... I kinda wish is was a pre-pay deal; another words, "I didn't get a spot on the list", hehe.

for those bitching about cruise control, ever seen under the hood of a PT Cruiser or 2g Neon with cruise? they both use the same system which is mounted on the base of the widnshield. Testing was conducted on the SRT4 and it was found that the system used on the other variants wouldnt work because it would sit way too close to the turbo creating a fire hazard/liability/Warranty issue where as in the PT turbo w/cruise the hood sits high and away from the motor unlike the SRT4. For automaker's lawyers thats a nightmare waiting to happen....so here we are bitchin/moaning about cruise and guess what? they still dont offer it.

Buck for buck an srt is the way to go.Ive driven one but it didnt really impress me but if for what it is its a good deal being factory stock.I'll more likely get one or a 03+ Altima but time will tell.Str8 up there torque monsters due to thier displacement but if 20k was my budget a used evo 8 would be mine all day.

traction fuckin sucks 225 bfg d/r and from 20mph hit 2 gear spins till i shift to 3 car only made 262 hp 307 touque for under $1000 i went 13.1 at 106 on stage 0 on 16 lbs of boost

If I leave the dail-a-boost on "3" ( the highest setting, meant for slicks ) I just kill the tires in first and second, BUT with the D-A-boost on "2" ( meant for highest torque output on OEM tires ) I get a little spinning in first and chirp 2nd, then boost hits 16psi and I'm gone...
From a stop, on the street, against a SRT4 with equal tires, but more power, I'd prob. own them on the street....
Of course, DRs changes everything...
stock05skittle, how much did the DRs effect the handling of the car ? Are you on stock rims still ??

I've owned a number of cars gen 1 (98 r/t) and dsm turbo honda... lots of cars :)
This car is the best bang for your buck. I am happy with it stock, it feels modded.. hard to explain.
It does have a crappy turning radius and wheelhop sucks but thats a given.
whats funny is it reminds me alot of my DSM back in the day.
wheels/tires are a bit skinny, hate the classic neon "high in the back" look

Car is 100% stock minus the stage2. Stock exhuast, stock air box and filter, cat still there, stock tires, stock shifter, STOCK EVERYTHING.
The Stage2 is basiclly a chip and injectors.... there is more to the kit, but no real "hard parts".
I got kinda disstracted from the escort or what ever the hell it was that was coming toward us, I thought it was a cop, next thing I know the guy flagging us has both hands up and drops them... My friend with the BMW ( that sold his GS-T ) said you told him you let out in 3rd, I hope not, I wasn't racing 0-60... I also kept blowing off the "brake boost line", which is no "small boost leak", but it was still fun...
We need to race again, maybe next weekend. If not, I'm sure I'll see you at the TR event ( I can't promise that it will still be "as stock" as it is now.. )
Anyway, yea wheel-hop/traction owned me a little on that race, hehe...
I really want to find out what that white 99ish mustang GT had, that thing screamed up-top !! He caught me "off guard" a litte too. We agreed to race from a 35mph roll, but his speed-o was wrong, so I said "ok, I'll go 35mph, you honk 3 times". We get to 22-23mph and he stops accelrating and starts honking !!! We hit it at the same time, but I WAY TOO LOW in the RPM band and he jumped a little over a car on me, then held it till about 90ish then pulled a little more on me. He would have won from a 35mph roll too, but it would have been a REALLY good race. That thing was camming like crazy, and sounded bad-ass !!!
When I first got there, I went to turn around to park and noticed a cobra and saw the IC up front and told my wife, " that bitch will fuck me up ". I raced him from a roll, and he gave me "the hit". I held him in second, he shifted 3rd and pulled about a car ahead of me, then hit 4th and left me ( SRT4s aren't the best at 90mph+ ). I was happy just to have been in the ball park, b/c I highly doubt it was stock...
I had fun, but didn't like the part when I hit the brakes after racing the white GT and saw FHP lights behind me, while I was doing 100mph+... I new he didn't have a radar or lazer on, but I wasn't worrying about a speeding ticket, hehe...
OK, enough thread steal-age....

Yea, the fhp was cool, he pretty much said "I know your racing, but they keep calling me, so come back later."
The mustang was pissed i got him both runs, he spun a little more than me which gave me a jump, he ended up catching me after 120.
And I did let out after third, my stock turbo runs out of breath after about 50mph, and once you passed me and put 1.5 cars on me, i shut it down, no reason to keep racing. I would have held you off a little longer if i didnt wheel hop so bad and let out :[
But good rus, i gave you credit in my war stories thread, hope to run you again when i get some traction.
