Well, this is my first thread. But I was wondering , is it a ggod idea to make my first car a drifter.I want a 91 240sx, make it like a 180sx.I work 40 hours a week, make $7.25 an hour and im going back to the Army in 6 to 7 months.I dont have a license, i dont know how to drive, but i want to drive a stick.I dont plan on owning a car thats not.Ever.The licence isnt a prob, i cant get that in a week if i wanted. And i could prolly have a 240 of decent stature in 4 months.Unless i get a gf.Which i need quite badly. So, any suggestions from you more adult dudes than me?

Drifting = $$$.....even cheap tires, and fixing broke stuff will eat you alive. Add mods...and the price skyrockets.

My suggestion....learn how to drive, and then decide.

Welcome to TR.

get a friend to teach u to drive stick, and don't compromise on an auto car, cause conversions are an uneeded pain. Trust me. And welcome to tr.

I guess I could say I was in the same situation as you awhile ago. Like Ricerocket said, learn how to drive, then decide.

Its alot of money to spend, not for the drifting stuff, but for everything in general.

If you buy a older/cheaper car, it will need repairs(this was true with my 240). Then you will be stupid and either
A) get close to wrecking it while trying to drift, and break a tie rod and bends some other stuff.
or B) total the car doing the same.
(Also true with my 240, I chose A)

Not to mention the expense for gas/insurance, I assume you are young, Insurance will slaughter you.

Get the liscense, learn to drive, then think about it.

Yeah,im 18, only been so for like 4 months. When i get back in the Army cash will almost not be an issue. The only bills i'll have is internet phone and cable.Live free, eat free, go to iraq for a year and come home with 35k extra $$$ in my pocket. That will solve alot of cash issues. But for now its just pushups and running to make sure i will pass bootcamp when i go back.I failed the final pt test by 3 pushups.Went through all of bootcamp just to fail 3 days b4 graduation.LOL.It sucked.

trust me... you will get more STD infected AZN girls by putting together a car to participate in every import showoff or hot import nights show :-) and if ur goal is to build a car to get girls... u must be looking for some shallow girls... buy a stock 240 and do what u can with that... it drives, its rwd, it has wheels.. it will drift... dont go and start building some enjuku race car and now know what the hell you are donig :-)

I think its really sad you'd put your life on the line for 35k a yr and actually be happy about that.... :nono: You need to re evaluate.

hey 11bravo, do what makes you happy. Personally my plan was to get a daily driver then buy a 240. I got the specV for my daily, and after basic I/H/E I'm going to save for the 240 as my project car. Plan to spend a year or two just to get on the right track with the project. It really is an expensive and time consuming endeavor. Unless of course your rich.

5-6 years ago the Nissan camp used to be really fuckin cool. Look at you all now. Satanhatch your increasingly becoming a real jackass from this side of the screen. You wreak of arrogance.

If you don't have pride in the fact that you were in the military, that's your deal, but do not knock military folk in general.

now, back to the topic...

I served proudly, never knocked the Military. My point was going to put your live in danger for 35k a year and smile about it ? Thats what I was telling the kid to rethink.. its NO picinic. Im sorry My life isnt worh 35k a yr.. NO way.

SilentBob86
02-18-2005, 06:34 PM
Its not about the money.Thats just a plus.My reason for jioning was to fight for the ppl i love and care about. And to know that i earned my citizenship.I want to fight for the ppl that have been killed by terrorists. That didnt get a chance to fight back for there own lives. For there families.

That's because your a selfish prick. 11Bravo got it right, "it's not about the money"...what it is about is protecting our freedom, and our way of life, and there are probably millions of people that understand this and feel this way every day, that's why many have spent more than 4 years in.

oh my god how did i miss this thread?

i cant believe we are having a discussion about an 18 year old kid with no liscense, that lives at home, that wasnt born in this country, thats enlisting in the army and wants to be a drifteR.

im also worried about national security and defense if our armed forces have more than one of these people in it.

BeQuietAndDrive
02-20-2005, 01:22 AM
I don't drift, but I though I would comment on this.

Why are some of you such assholes to this kid?

In all of motorsports, I have never seen such elitism and arrogance than in drifting.

When I started out autocrossing, I had nothing but help from people with experience. Everyone was friendly, everyone offered advice.

Over here , you have a guy who wants to try out drifting, because he thinks it looks cool. Who cares if he drives, where he lives...etc. Why not help him out, point him in the right direction, get him started?

11Bravo, as a few other people said, first, get your drivers lisence. Do you know any friends that have manual cars that you can practice on? If so, practice and then find yourself a car. If not, you'll have to learn on your own car, which can be tough. If you need any help with driving a stick, or driving, or anything, PM me and let me know. I'll try and help, or point you to someone who can.

I'd say get a reliable car to get you from point A to B.
Then when the $$ is available, build a drifter. It will give you time to learn more about the sport and just car maintenance in general. Plus you'll always have something to drive when the play car is down for repairs/upgrades. Just my $.02
oh yea, don't let anyone knock you for "the bandwagon", I don't see too many ppl here that were drifting in the 80's, early 90's, so a majority jumped on afterwords anyways. And just because you start later, doesn't mean you can't be just as good, if not better.
Records are made to be broken.

If you're gonna drift, you're gonna either need major $$ or know how to work on your car yourself, or w/ buddies. I recommend you start doin your homework.

Anyhow, welcome to the club, hope to see you sliding soon.

SilentBob86
02-22-2005, 02:46 PM
Yeah, i can turn a wrench pretty good myself.Plus my buddies dad down the street is a mechanic. So i could pretty much do all the work myself.Thx for yhe advice man.L8er

F&f3...?

Fast & Furious: Highlighted illegal Streetracing
2Fast, 2Furious: Highlighted illegal Roadracing
Fast & Furious 3 (whatever they call it) will probably 'highlight' Drifting....
Than the price of 240s will soar, and the whole scene will implode.
