so i went on a little 3 mile touge run. when i got to the end on the trip back my pads greased over hard core. now going 85mph up to a red light with greased pads isnt the funnest thing. i survived though cause i wasnt going crazy and left lots of room for error cause the road was wet in a few places. like braking early, being easy on throttle modulating, and not going too fast. tons of fun. about 75% of the turns were blind, sweeping, banked carasels. some with blind entrances on the other side of hills and stuff.
but back to the brakes. i have learned that if you plan on doing any sort of road racing or touge runs, DO NOT use Car Quest semi-metallics or WearEver. cause when they grease over no mater how hard you push the pedal in it wont slow down any faster. now with that said what are some good brake pads that will last a while, wont grease over easily, wont kill the rotors, and are a decent price. i have a set of project mu (sp) pads for he rear that i have waiting to go in, but that will happen when i get rear brembos. already have brembos in the front.
P.S. the smell of brakes stings the nose and its pretty pungent.

wow i'm never going anywhere you drive
S13's are some of the worst I have seen of brake fade. Haha Thats why I picked me up a set of 300zx 4 pots 30mm iron for 130 for everything. Brake ducts would help also. There are plently of options and good brake pads will help you stop quicker, but not so much with brake fade. Larger diameter helps with that.

hi matt...
i had solid brakes up until the last stretch where it just wouldnt stop like it did when i started. the pedal never went soft so the fluid and lines are good. will be getting stainless very soon though. where would i mount brake ducts too???
u didnt go on a mountain pass. liar.

Performance Frictions are a decent pad over the Wearevers and Carquest pads. And you can pick them up at autozone and Advance. Which weareevers are you using? If they are the silvers those suck.

Project mu makes a crazy good pad. Hawk is good stuff also.
You get what you pay for when it comes to brakes.

dude, youre telling the truth! and when they go, they go without warning. so i guess since i already have the rear set ill just finish it with the front mu set.
for break lines. what does Amazon charge for stainless break lines. i know the lines are under $4 a ft but with all the labor and what not it ads. just wondering so i can have the money in hand the day off when i drop the old lines off so they can make it and not worry about being short on cash. i just had a pressured ps line made with the restrictor for $42 after tax and i know the closest price is about $60 with tax for the cheapest from advanced discount. so + 1 for amazon.

D'oh.... I should have read the entire thread! Looks like you are already set.
Get a higher temp pad, and change your fluid. Hawk make a good street pad... it's called the hps. They also make a good intermediate pad called the hp, but they are kind of noisy. Enjuku sells Hawk so hit-up Matt.

I used to live in FL and I can't imagine there being even one good mountain road in the whole state. I live in WA state and the stuff we have here scares the hell out of me. But in the event that I find myself having fun on one of the local mountains; I have a set of KVR pads and DOT5.1 fluid for my brake upgrades. The KVR's are great even with stock rotors. Heat has no effect on them (actually, they are great when cold and actually better when they heat up) and they have alot of bite. I don't remember how much I paid but it was well worth it. Here is a link to where I got mine:

hmmm. so pads to try out are project mu, kvr, hawk, ebc, etc... now are any of these not direct OEM replacements???
ive used Castrol Race brake fluid on karts before. dont know what it was rated for though, but it worked great on 30 min races.
well theres no mountains but there are hills and what not. nothing compared the colorado or even the bluffs in the midwest. those are really fun roads in Iowa, the very NE Nebraska, and SE South Dakota... but i agree with you about mountain passes scaring the shit out of you. even if you are going 5 mph in the snow. you look off the side of the road where there isnt a guard rail and see the tree tops of 50-75ft pine trees at eye level not even 20 ft from the road. shits scary esp when you dont like heights.

Hey matt what's the japanese word for small hill? Ant pile? Becasue that's all the elevation we have here. I bet your driveway is steeper than any hill in FL.
I was thinking about getting new pads too. Does hawk or KVR make corolla pads?

PDM-racing had Hawk pads for the Corolla.

I have bought from them many times, I highly recommend. They also have cross drilled rotors, racing fluid and SS lines. All high quality and cheap.

Buck, Castrol makes a great brake fluid but it's expensive around 60/qt retail. The wet boiling point is 518.
I use Motul as the wet boiling point is 420 and I get it at a wholesale price.
If you are that worried about fade, buy Motul or ATE super blue fluid and then spend the extra money on duct work to feed cool air to the rotors.

Welcome to Mt. Dora, FL. There are some decent curvy roads with banked turns and decent elevation changes here in FL.
Once Taka gets back into town, it's road trip time. 2 hours drive time to the spot is a bit excessive, but fun times. :monkdnce:

I don't know where was the spot, but I've been to 50mph banked turns about 30-40min north from N Tampa. if you run off road, you will just hit cows.
We need to hit all the winding roads in tampa bay Mar. I just don't want to see rednecks anymore.

I'll ask my mom what the exact name of the road is, I only know it by visuals. There is a killer elongated S turn that I am partial to. I might go to visit my Grandparents this weekend coming up, will write down the name regardless. It's kind of scary moving along through there at some serious velocities in a tankass 03 Cobra. In 315's I trust.

Whatever brake pads came with my silvia brakes were AMAZING! They bit better than any other pads I've felt. I need to find them again. Gosh darn it.
