How do the size of turbos on diesels relate to non diesels?

Realizing that a lot of diesels only rev half of what other cars do it must have a different method of spooling up the turbo or just a smaller one. Whats the best way to have a turbo on a low reving torque motor?
What is better for towing and offroading: turbo or supercharger?

Sorry for all the questions but thanks for the help.

diesel turbos are usually massive! Its not the revs that dictate the turbo wheel speed, its the amount of exhaust coming in contact with it, and a v-10 7+ liter engine puts a hell of a lot more exhaust out than say my 2.4L 4 banger. FOr towing and offroading on a gasoline engine i would have to say a supercharger would be the way to go. Instant torque when you need it. A friend had a Wieand [sp?] supercharger on his lifted chevy and said he got a hell of a lot better gas mileage, expecially when pulling his boat.

Well im looking into buying a hummer(H1) and of course I'll offroad with every chance I get. They come with a turbo and Id like to:
A. Add another turbo
B. Switch to a big supercharger (What differences to roots vs centrifugal have in torque/towing capabilities?)
C. Put in a new motor.

h1 i presume? if so i think it is perfectly capable of off roading with no further enhancements. with a turbo diesel, just get a chip for the computer and i think a boost controller as well and just turn the boost up. Ill have to see what my cousin did to his 1 ton duallie to give it more power. I know he re-chipped it but I dont know what else. Last i talked to him though he was running somewhere around 32psi.

Well the thing is the new 05 H1s are pushing 600+lb of torque so yea boost controller would probably push it up a bit above that but what would be the next most realistic big step up power adder wise? Twin turbo hummer...

realistic? boost controller. you can turn boost up as high as you can go so long as turbo/engine/fuel can hang.

just turning up the boost on a diesel is a moot point(realy does nothing without more fuel)...you need to get he fuel flowing to that biootch

Fuel plays a major factor in diesels.
