Who has experiences to share? I am looking for low-key HPDEs to start with (read: not loaded with nut-jobs loaded with testosterone in a beginner run group). Has anyone done anything with SAFE?

www.chinmotorsports.com Your first time out they will give you classroom time, an instructor and your own run group for your first few runs.
http://www.drivenasafl.com is another club I believe they have run groups and will accept novice drivers.
www.safemotorsports.com accepts more advanced drivers, so you have to have prior experience to run with this club.

Perfect. I looked at the NASA site last night and couldn't find anything in FL for the SE Region ;) drivenasafl.com is what I wanted.

I just got back from a SAFE event at Moroso. Everything was pretty smooth and low key. No one on your back, just sort of do your thing. Kick back and relaxed like an SCCA Club Race.

well run/good amount of track time.

Oops. I see this is covered in a sticky at the top of this forum. Surprised nobody jumped all over my ass for it.

I think Leonard took a day off. ;)
Since you're poking around, be sure to let us know if those stickies are out of date.

Not at all. He asked for personal experience from people who've been. That isn't covered in the sticky. :-P
Now, if he'd asked "Does anyone know where they hold HPDE's?"....

thank you very much. before i think about doing any road racing i need to setup my brake balance/tires/alignment right. i was going about 80mph last night, layed into the brakes, then wanted to stop faster, but my front right wheel locked up.

Good information. I am interested as well. This time I hope I can keep my car running.
I keep hearing about the Moroso track but when I think back to when I last visisted there, all I can remember is the drag strip. What does the track look like?

Not a bad looking track. Is it similar to the Gainesville setup (ie: grass run-offs) or are there actually safe run-off areas (ie: sand, gravel, tire barriers, etc.)? What kind of speeds are seen on the straights and turns?
And to keep this on topic (though it's covered in a sticky :D) I'll give my vote to Chin Motorsports. Good group of guys and a pretty well run events. I'm just sad I was never able to find the time to actually drive the car on track, something always came up. :(
