In the end, it would be cheaper to buy a real diff.

Just yank that biatch out and take it to a ANY welding shop that knows how to weld. Tell them to such and such together then go get some McDonald's, go back and pick up your diff, then install it back on teh car. Anyone who knows how to weld and what to weld on the diff can do it.

Anyone ever braze one with Oxy-Acetelene? Brazed joints are often stronger than wire welded as long as there is suffecient overlap. Maybe it might prevent braking?

All depends on the base metal. Welding FUSES and adds a filler metal, brazing adds a filler metal with bonds the two pieces. As thick as those damn gears are, you need hella heat and penetration to fuse them together. Where did you get your source of info at?

once you braze together the metals the amount of heat needed will untemper the satelite gears causing them to crumble like cookies when force or torque wich ever one you prefer is applied, also when you take the diff apart mark everything on wich side it came off of and put it all back together the same way it came out or excesive noise will occur, i meen EXCESIVE noise...i have a 5 bolt diff from a j30 if you want it .....
