Something big is going to happen in Florida in 2005. I wish I could say it is going to be an explosion, but a digress. I predict an implosion.

D G T R I A L S successfully brought the first drift events to Florida. As a responsible sanctioning body, they have looked out for those that drift, and turned down events that did not meet certain safety requirements (sometimes against popular choice).

The fact of the matter is, D G T R I A L S has probably sanctioned more Drift events on US Soil than anybody else.

While I agree that competition is good, at the current growth of the sport, something will have to give. I don't think central Florida is ready for such an influx of events.
D G T R I A L S pretty much promises a SAFE place to practice, albeit at a slightly higher price. They held events when nobody else would,

I-4 Drift (for lack of a better name) has also arrived on the scene, promising more frequent events at a cheaper cost.

Between the 2 of them,D G T R I A L S has what it takes to get it done. They always has. I-4 Drift on the other hand, has held 1 "semi-successful" event, and decided to bombard the schedule with there events, in an attempt to drive out D G T R I A L S (IMHO). With only 1 event under their belt, they think they can now host 2 events a month. Hmmmmm.

How will this hurt the drifting community in Florida? D G T R I A L S is like a watchdog for us. They care that we don't go out and wreck our cars in unsafe conditions, they are their for us. With I-4 drifts current schedule, people will be forced to choose 1 or the other. If D G T R I A L S can not cover costs, they will pull out of Florida INDEFINETELY.

So, I-4 Drift wins, right? Yes, but WE LOSE. The only reason I-4 Drift can offer such cheap fees is because they use the tracks insurance. How many times can you go around the lakeland track until you get bored?

The minute I-4 Drift trys to seek other locations, they too will have to purchase insurance to cover the event, and GUESS WHAT! Price skyrockets.

So let's face it, Central Florida IS NOT big enough YET for the 2 of them. In the next few months, drivers will have to choose which is more important to them. Making left turns at Lakeland for the near future, or paying a little extra to have variety.

Now, Yes, I attended the first Lakeland event, and it was okay and all, but I WILL NOT BE RETURNING. My Support lies with D G T R I A L S. They are professional, more organized, and offer better potential to expand our skills.

You may or may not agree with me. This has been my thought for some time, and with the ambitious schedule that I-4 Drift has proposed, I feel it only right that I discuss my thoughts. I expect this thread to become a Flame War, but I still think it needs to said

its a shame that the future of safe, well organized events are being put into jeopardy by people greedy to cash in.

We went from 5 events in 2004 to 3 events in February 2005.

Yes, it's 'pay to play', but face the numbers. $90 DDAY6, $60 for 2 lakeland events, and let's not forget repairs, upgrades, and TIRES.

D G T R I A L S has made it pretty obvious last year that they anticipated a bunch of events this year, but with the influx of new events, I don't see this happening. D G T R I A L S does NOT make really $$$ at these events.

While DDAY3 had - 300 Spectators / 52 Drivers (a profit situation), DDAY5 had - 150 Spectators / 26 Drivers. These 2 events washed out to a break even situation.

Yes, seat time is seat time, but like I said, only 1 will float in central Florida.

I KNOW I can not afford to attend all of these events. I can barely afford to attend DDAY6, but I'll be there.

Remember, it's not like ALL of D G T R I A L S events have been 'sold-out'. Not even I-4 Drift 'sold-out' in there 1st event. Point is, there are simply not enough drivers/$$$ for both.

charles... ther is nothing wrong with using the same track the same time... wanna know why? because by using the SAME track you can easily try new methods for technique, different suspensions settings, and different tire set ups... KNOWING their conditions based on the same track...

you nor anyone else is a master at any track here locally... so therefore i beleive that if you drift correctly with the goal of learning... there is no such ting as getting tired of a track...

sure dg trials have safe events.... so go to them... quit preaching about other people's events...

just because allstate might have better insurnace packages than statefarm does it give them the right to brag? hey man you are safer with us etc etc/...

well i think seat time is seat time. i also think that both events will attrack different crowds so there should be room for both parties. i personally like ocala alot and hope we always have events there. although i think they should be alittle cheaper. $75 seems a fair price for pre-register, $90to 100 day of. also charles D g trails wouldn't be puttin on events either if ther wasn't any money in it. there are 2 sides to every story and i think this post should be deleted do to the inevitabl influx of drama its bound to produce. again, i should be a mod in here, but whatever.

Can you afford all 3 events in Feb? and have enough left over for at least 2 if not 3 in march? and this does not include going to Miami to win some cool prizes....

Don't fool yourself thinking that there are enough people out there willing to dish out big bucks every month, because there isn't.

and no, this thread shouldn't be deleted. it brings up very good issues, whether you agree with them or not.

[sidenote to bill: If you truly think that BOTH events can coincide with each other, than prove it. Make sure BOTH events sell out every event thru May 2005, than I will believe you.]

on yet another note. Yes, ******** is out there to make some $$$, but I assure you that Kyle is not about to buy a new house on a lake with the profits. Funny thing is, the guy spearheading lakeland, well, I've never heard of him. I've never seen him on the track, hell, he couldn't even bring his own car to his own event, he brought a FORD RANGER. Why should I trust him?

people arnt going to go to every drift event every month. they will pick and choose which events they want to goto. they might feel like they wanted to go to lakeland one month and D Gtrials the next month. if DG trials cant take a little competition maybe they shouldnt be in this game in the firstplace.

if DGtrials wants to have alot of spectators like at Dday 1 they need to find an event thats close to an main road so alot of people will come. or maybe have a better spectating area at ocala. i got board after dday3 since you can only really watch for 1 angle.

the technique is for the drivers

the sport is for the spectators. plain and simple.
cars that get more applause will get higher points from the judges. those that play the crowd get more scoring.

I've had enough of this. There's nothing wrong with using the track's insurance. In fact, I called K&K this morning, and as long as it is ON A TRACK inside compound where nobody else can get hurt except for the dumbasses, then there's nothing wrong with it.

IN ADDITION --->

USA Speedway has an EMT and ambulance on duty. So if something bad does happen, they will have you taken care of immediatly. They do this every weekend with the stock car / demolition derby / figure 8 / whatever they do.

Quit your crying, everybody.
IF you want to go to an event, then go! If you don't? Don't! You should be happy that there are event choices. This way people can't charge whatever they want for a drift event.

Keep this in mind you people -->
Guess what it costs to cone dodge out in California and Arizona?? 150 + PER PERSON PRE REGISTER ONLY .
Think about that before you start saying it's too expensive out here.
