Just giving the heads up that the first bmwcca/pca auto-x is on the 30th. www.fscbmwcca.org will give you directions and whatnot.

Might try to make this one. FYI, couldn't find info on this date with the link you provided. It's on the PCA website, thoug:

novice, non porche drivers aloud??

99TL
01-17-2005, 02:35 PM
yea... they do 3 seperate run groups: porsche, bmw, and other ... typically in that order. In regards to the course set-up... generally very fast and in the 50-60 second range.

Yes, they're a pretty friendly bunch. They have instructors available for novices and encourage people to come out in any car. The PCA website prices aren't current, I think they're charging non-members $30 or $35 to enter. Their classing is Porsche-based with some BMW consideration... and everyone else is "other".

But, yeah, bring it on out. As long as it's a safe vehicle and you're a licensed driver with some cash in your pocket, they'll let you run.

I'd love to go...but the new brakes wont be on by then :( I might come to just hang out, it's been a while. I'm def in for 2/12 SR autox though ;)

The website still says $20 to enter. Didn't they raise that a while ago?

Yes, see above.

Not sure, but I think it's $30 or $35 for non-members.

Seems kinda close, might give it a try. What exactly do you mean fast though? like high rpm 2nd gear?

w0rd
01-20-2005, 12:23 PM
damn, $35 sucks if true.

I have probably hit 75 mph there, and I have about 140HP.

Muddy
01-20-2005, 01:00 PM
I think I paid $20 at the last event. Anyway, I know for sure that it isn't $35.

Oops. Okay, looking back in time (http://www.tamparacing.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=193447&highlight=pca+fee), it appears that they did drop the rate back to $20 sometime last year. I know they experimented with higher rates for a while. Anyway, if it's $20... cool!

I have exposed your evil plan to scare people away from the PCA event, Loren!

You've just exposed my feeble memory... not that it was a very well hidden fact!

Hope I make it out to this event and see some of you there.

how many runs on avg anyway?

typically 3-4 ... sometimes some fun runs at the end.

as far as speed: as long as they keep this course design somewhat consistant with the other ones 70-75 should not be out of the picture.... really, really fun course designs.... decent speed switchbacks, trailbraking, etc...

OversteerS2K

They dropped it back to $20 for everyone for 2005. Last year they had non-members bumped to $30. Some asshole ( ;) ) made a stink about it. I think the "other" class shrunk down due to the 50% surcharge.

The courses are always fun (until the finish). Generally it's a Danny Sheilds design or he makes some tweaks to someone elses course. In any event I've never seen a bad course by Danny and w/o the SCCA rule book to worry about, speeds in my car are usually at a low to mid 70MPH peak on each side. I've probably hit 80 and imagine some of the larger displacement cars with race tires flirt with 90 briefly. Sometimes you can just stand on it for 3-5 seconds. Most of the time it's 4 runs but 3 when the number of entries is high. FTD for "others" usually gets a beer mug or T-shirt from a long gone Porsche event. But, like Sunriders, these events are just for fun - and they are. The only heavy competition is in a select few PCA & BMWCCA classes.

The surface is great practice for autocrossing in the rain. It's "unique".

One tip - see which way the wind is blowing and make sure you get a work station upwind. If you're on the wrong side you'll get caked with it and be picking your nose for days.

Lunch usually comes courtesy of the Sheilds' sponsor Suncoast Porsche (two or three Publix deli trays).

$20 is worth it. Go.

What's the official word on loaner helmets? I'll be leaving S. Tampa too. What route are you planning to go up there? I ask b/c I'm wondering if I can drop the car prior to arriving on scene. This will be my 1st event w/ the stupid body kit...

I think m2000 is the lowest rating for auto-x purposes.

----------------------------------------------------
4.3.1 Helmets
Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on course: All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI standards 31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable. FIA approved helmets which are acceptable for use in Rally events are acceptable for Solo II events.

For maximum protection, helmets must fit securely and should
provide adequate peripheral vision. The chin strap must be securely fastened. Loaner helmets should be available to vehicle occupants not having their own
-----------------------------------------------------

So Snell 2005 (not out yet????), 2000, and 95 are legal.

Muddy, Mofugga, bring the helmets, I may buy if I like but I at least need to borrow... I'm a size 7.

PS - 99TL, where/when do you want to meet up? I might need a ride back too if my current slipping clutch decides to go...

how about either the gas station at the NEQ of kennedy/howard or the Burger King off the 22nd street exit of I-4? 7:30ish? And if the clutch goes a ride home won't be a problem.
