View Full Version : Why the TRack Event closed a hour early tonight.

I know this is going to pop up in a few threads so here it is in a nutshell.
Ron with the white turboed Civic swapped lanes and took out a time marker on one of his runs around 7:30, this was the first indicator it was getting humid out.
Then a hour or so after that the track crew came to me at 8:30ish and said the track was getting wet quick and that we were going to need to close it up early before someone stuffed it in the wall.
So I asked them to announce a 30 minute heads up over the PA system at 8:30 that we were making last call at 9:00 with lanes closing at 9:30. Ten minutes later some guy in a red Tran Am went completely sideways at almost the end of the track (about 1,000 ft out), missed the guard rail by inches, so the track manager stopped all runs at that point. The Trans Am was a daily driver and not a race car either.
It was done for safety, first time we have ever ended early but it was like a ice rink out there.
Hope everyone had a good time, the track was hooking well prior to 7:30 and the lanes were moving good.
Thanks again to Rev Xtreme for the sponsorship money to make it cheaper for eveyone.

i got sideways in 3rd gear on my last run, but i thought it was because of the t-bird that blew a hose the run before me. see it even pays to know how to drift on a drag strip.

I know that the group I was with had a great time and not upset that the track closed early. Especially after the guy "drifting" on the track. Props to the driver for getting his car under control.:bigthumb:

That was my buddy Ben in the red T/A, that was the first time out with the car and he tried to spray it, bad idea I guess. I about shit myself watching him. Good call on closing early, no need to keep it open if its like that. I think everybody still had a good night.

there had to of been more than just dew on the track. why was only a problem in the right lane. I know dino about lost it in the same spot just before the red t/a went sideways. If it was just dew, then why wasn't the left lane having the same problems?
Regardless, I had a good time watching everyone run and meeting up with several friends.

It was probably due to the tbird that blew a coolant hose or something, hachibill got sideways as well right after him

i was the run in the right lane before the red t/a, and right when i hit 3rd the wheels spun like crazy and the tach went straight to redline. i thought i misshifted to 1st gear for a minute.
it sux that it closed early b/c i had to wait for the 7PM call for open spots and only got 2 hrs of racing (minus 30 mins of track prep), but it was slicker than an ice rink out there.
as far as i'm concerned, minor glitch in a series of great track days put on by scott, TR, and the folks at BMP. I"ll be out there again at the next one :)

When i hit 3rd gear my car changed lanes. When i got out of the groove it was like ice. I wouldnt have kept my foot in it if someone was next to me. The fact that i had skinnys on in the rear i didnt want to start swerving so i used the lane next to me. After that pass i tuned it down to 14lbs instead of 30. That was the only pass 11.79@122. That i made.

Nervous? What for? JFWY, but for future reference, when you do the John Force past the starting line, the first flash of the staging beams when you're backing up is the rear tires. Your last pass made me almost fall out of the bleachers when the guy at the starting line just threw his hands up and shook his head  It's nothing some seat time won't take care of  Now quit being a cheap bastard and get a good ring gear in there
