Its just a level of impedance, means nothign for power handling, just the flexibility of an install

your not aloud to talk car audio . Once again your right is taken away
Its whatever the amp is rated at. Some amps push its max at 4 ohms, some at 2, some at 1.
For example, my old xtant amp would push its max at 2 ohms. It was not able to go down to 1 ohm or it would shut off
My new hifonics pushes its max at 1 ohm. Itll still run in 2 ohms but 1 ohm is its max
Some US amps I bought a while back pushed its max power at 4 ohms, 2 and 1 ohm was less power. Its all how the amp is built.

well obviously you havent seen a rare amp as the jl 500/1.
Some amps wont support 2 ohm load. Lots of 5 channel amps wont. While a given amp is rated for more power at two ohms that doesnt mean it will be louder. There are more circumstances to be taken into account than sub. If you hook a 2 ohm sub with an rms of 150wrms onto a 150 wrms amp @ 4 ohms.. that sub wont be enjoying life for very long. What about box?
BESIDES, its all about fexibility, like curtis said, all amps are different, and if youre reaching max excursion at 4 ohms, what 2 ohms going to do for you?

Alrite so his strikes are :
1) Plywood is great wood for box building
2) 2 ohms is louder than 4 ohms
At what point do you get rights taken away for giving advice LoL
I like how we turned an innocent question into a off topic debate

help me out here then.....i have 2 kicker l7's 4ohm in a ported box, with a bd1000.there are two channels on the amp,but i know nothing about the amps(as far as ohms)so what would be the best way two run the subs off it?...right now i have one channel going to one voice coil on one of them, and the other channel going to the other sub.the two coils that have nothing to them(one on each sub) i was told to connect them with a jumper wire?
and the other quetion is would i be better with getting 2ohm l7's,and another bd1000.this way each sub has a seperate amp.
my setup is
alpine iva-d300 headunit
boston gt42 4 channel(highs)
2 pairs of boston pro60 front/back
bd1000
2 kicker l7's(4ohm)ported box
stinger cap
power amper-power meter(looks cool)
0guage into power meter-4guage to bd,and 2 8guage to boston
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
nedded to get tuned very very soon.<let me know if you can do it.
